I just dont want people picking the music all night, especially since I have teenage nieces and nephews attending. We are doing a mix of music to try to keep everyone happy thru out the night.
I want to tell my DJ not to take any requests, is that rude?

Re: Did anyone tell their DJ not to take requests
We told our band not to accept requests unless if it was from our parents. No offense taken from them. I would just tell them that along w/ the 'must play' music

Re: Did anyone tell their DJ not to take requests
Our DJ actually brought this up at our first meeting and he told us that you spend all this time picking out the music YOU want to hear, that if you have people requesting songs over and over, you might not get to hear most of the music you want. So....
NO requests for us!!

Re: Did anyone tell their DJ not to take requests
We asked the band not to make announcements or take requests. They said thank you because it makes it easier for them to know how to respond.

Re: Did anyone tell their DJ not to take requests
we didn't tell our band anything and I don't think anyone requested anything-however- we recently went to a wedding for a friend and our group had wanted to hear a song , one girl asked the DJ to play it and he said No, the bride said not to... we understood (sort of-there was nothing wrong with the song-but it was her decision) but if the DJ /BAnd tells people that , hopefully no one will bug you with a 'WHY' but in case they do, be prepared

Re: Did anyone tell their DJ not to take requests
Our DJ actually told us that he will not accept any requests from anyone other than FH and I (and he said anyone else that we tell him is ok to accept requests from). I do not think that is rude at all. I would definitely tell him not to accept requests, especially from your teenage cousins.

My MC also brought this up at the meeting. He said that we need to make the decision if we want requests or not. I think we are going to say no requests.

Re: Did anyone tell their DJ not to take requests
i am going to assign certain people they can take requests from
anyone in a bridesmaid dress - parents of the bride and groom. . . anyone in a tux that matches the groom -
that way my MOH can take care of a song that my parents are quietly complaining about. . . and not have to come bother me. . .
thats about it though!

Same here! I definitely agree. Also, no speeches unless you are notified first - I've heard some HORROR stories!

Re: Did anyone tell their DJ not to take requests
Definitely clear this up ahead of time-- I went to a wedding where the brides cousin belted out an offkey rendition of Bed of Roses in honor of the bride and groom. She was mortified and p.oed at the dj for allowing it to happen!

Re: Did anyone tell their DJ not to take requests
YES, I have friends that like to have a little too much to drink at weddings. As much as they are usually the life of the party, I asked that my DJ not take request or give out a microphone unless it's for the Best Man and MOH for the toast...... lol

Re: Did anyone tell their DJ not to take requests
that's not rude. we actually told our DJ not to take requests, and not to announce anything (ie, birthdays, anniversaries, etc.)
