Did I do the wrong thing?

I got into a car accident today. Nothing major but it really shook me up and the back of my car is pretty messed up.

So, the woman was on the way to the hospital to see her dad. DH and I waited with her for an HOUR for the cops to come. I was literally shaking and I had to pee so bad ( lol nervous pee!) so i called 911 again and apologized and let them know that I would not be there and not to send anyone. They said they were still sending someone so we waited a little longer but it was in a bad neighborhood and I didnt feel safe there, even with DH and I didnt feel it was necessary to hold up this woman any longer - yes i know she hit me but she was so apologetic!

Anyway, we left and I have to call insurance tomorrow . . .can I get into trouble for that? I feel bad but I have heard of people waiting THREE hours!!!

Oh yeah and my neck is FREEKEN KILLING ME!!!!!!!!! i think i am going to go to the doctor tomorrow DH wants to take me to the hospital but I am not sitting there for ten hours for neck pain.

u shoudl def see a doctor asap bc it shoudl be docu. your injurys if soemthign gets worse in the future.. they are liable.

i dont kno why they woudl have you waitign and i woudlnt say if you didnt feel safe with ant or not.. but i woudl get medical attention asap to tell the insurance you went and they said xyz happened and you feel xyz bc of the accident.

I am glad to hear that you didnt get seriously hurt! Def put ice on your neck and relax! I've been there - so i def know how you feel!

As far as leaving. im not sure what the protocol is on that, but you def coulhave gotten stuck thre a while. I was driving to SI with my bro, sis, FH and bros GF, just got off the Verrezano, was merging onto the SI expressway when this moron decided instead of going behind me and merge left like i was that he was going to go around me (to the right) and ended up hitting the front pass side corner of my car. He insisted that it was my fault - whatever they were following someone and def didnt want to get lost ( i could tell because the other car stopped further up and the guy walked back to where we had the accident)

Long story short we called the police, because the guy wouldnt exchange ins info and it took them 3 hours to come. But the joke was on them because im pretty sure they were going to a wedding.. guess they missed that!

first of all thank god ur ok!!! did u take down their insurance info??? if so i think ur fine but def call about the insurance about it and go to the doctors asap..also take pics

yes, i took down all of her insurance and license info and i will call insurance tomorrow.

so strange bc we were talking about going to look at cars YESTERDAY bc we just found out that DH's car isnt safe to drive!! what luck!!!

Did the other person wait after you left? I know there is a charge for leaving the scene of an accident, but i dont believe you qualify for it, yu kno? But when I worked for a lawfirm, my bosses daughter rear ended someone - not bad, but she left w/o stopping and was ticketed for that and had to go to court - i dont want to make you nervous, but i know tht def exists

Im sorry that happened to you and honestly i dont know if i would have stayed either. Please go to the hospital and get checked! PLLLLEAAAAASEEE!!!

I'm so sorry! Accidents are scary!!

Insurance companies will not file a claim without a police report. I was in an accident a few years ago, and the man who hit me insisted that we go to a body shop bc he wanted to pay for all of the damage since he hit me. Well, after he got the estimate he changed his mind and wanted to go through insurance instead. Neither of our insurance companies would even begin a claim without a police report so we had to go to the police dept to file one.

yes we both waited over an hour - i understand it wasnt an emergency but DH got so mad bc it would have been very dangerous if i was there by myself at that time!

it was 100% her fault ( not sure if that matters ) i was stopped at a red light, the light turned green. . .i started to roll forward slowly and BAM! she slammed into me. i blacked out for a minute and then thought to slam on the brake before i hit the car in front of me.

if you want im pretty sure you can file a report as long as its within 24 hours.. i would highly recommend you doing this!

and DEF. go to the doctor!!

an insurance company tried to screw my cousin when he was rear ended once. He took the guys info and left... went to the hospital the next day. he was out of work for months after that and the insurance tried to say he was making up the injuries... all because he didn't stay and wait for an ambulance. their logic was 'well, if he was really hurt he would have gone to the ER right away'. he was shaken up though... and didn't feel seriously hurt at the time. they ended up settling after like 9 months. ridiculous.

yes i have heard that logic before so i really hope my neck gets better - i just had this urge to go home and it was the only thing i could think of at the moment
