I got engaged in July and I have not registered yet. We are getting married in May 2004. We did not have an engagement party (just a family gathering celebration). When should I register??? I was going to do it soon, but everyone is telling me that I need to get my butt in gear. Should I rush?

No, not at all. I got married in May and I didn't register until November. The earlier you do it, the more likely the stuff you register for will be discontinued...

you've got pleanty of time. they suggest registering 6 months before anyway....dont' stress about it! you can register when you get the chance. don't rush though- you might pick somethign you hate!!! enjoy!!

I don't understand the rush. If you register before the winter holidays, people may buy you presents off your registry - some people here said that was what happened to them. We got married in July but didn't register until five months before. That was enough time for us. Since you're not having an engagement party, I don't think there is a rush, but maybe you should start thinking about what you would like and where you would like to register.

I agree, wait a bit for all the new stuff! I am still registering, and I plan on finishing it when my bridal shower invites go out at the end of September (My mother couldn't keep a secret!!! She had me help her pick out the shower invites! )

I agree - if you registering too early you have to deal with the changing of seasons. I am having this problem right now. I registered in the summer but now the fall lines are starting to get in the stores. You may want o put a few things up in case someone would like to buy an engagement gift.

You have sooo much time to register. We did it 5 months prior to our wedding, my first shower is in 2 weeks, can't wait to see what I get off the registry

actually i wish i didn't do it when i did. but my aunt hosted a party for us after we were engaged and asked me to register before it. now i find that some of the stuff i registered for are out of stock. my china isn't - i called lenox and they said they won't be retiring our plates for years.
