our friend is pregnant and I definitely have baby fever...or so I thought...when I told her that they have to come out a visit us...all I could think of was...when they have the baby they can't just pop over...and they are fine with that...but I am wondering about myself...
DH's cousin lives in London and she has come to NY 2x in the year since her baby was born...and also visited Spain a few times with the baby...
So moms...did you have any doubts like this? Could you put the baby in a car and go out for a drive...or long weekend? or did your priorities completely change (like everyone tells me?)

You can still do those things but you are now responsible for another life and it is a lot harder to just get up and go on vacation but not hard at all to drive to a friends house for a visit and priorities totally change but you almost dont have time to notice. Becoming a mom was the best thing that ever happened to me

You can definitely still do those things! The only difference with the baby is that now you have to PLAN AHEAD more than you would when it was just the two of you. It's not life-shattering, but if you forget a crucial item (for the baby), it can become a set-back. So planning is really the key.

Our hope is that while this baby may slow us down a bit, it definitely won't stop us. I know so many people who 'do it all' even with a baby, and I want to be like that too.
In fact, we are already planning a vacation for February, and our baby will be 3 months old!

I think there are some things that we might not do, but then again we will not stop everything because of baby. And honestly I am okay with that. Sure we cannot see some movies (because I loath when people bring infants and small toddlers into movies that are not G rated), but we will just have more movies to rent. And like Claud said, you have more to plan, but you don't have to stay in the house forever.

Im never home. As soon as I could get out of the house after Emma was born I was. We have taken many trips upstate. It takes a while to get out of the house and your practically packing the house into the car when you leave but when you finally get out, things are 95% the same as they used to be... the other 5% is you have to feed someone when they are hungry, no waiting or you will surly hear it, change someone when they are smelly, no waiting or you can DIE of odor and you have someone to ALWAYS carry around. Other than that things are great...
you know...I think its more selfishness on my part...I want our friends to come to see us...and with a baby they may not be able to...I am starting to think that we will be OK to continue to travel...
thanks for your opinions...

I don't plan to stop living the life my husband and I have established after the baby comes. I know that we will have to make some adjustments to accomodate the baby. But that's it.
