I am freaking out. So I went for my tasting yesterday with FH, FH's parents and my parents. They gave us three entrees that they were serving for the wedding last night to sample. We got a stuffed chicken, a filet, and a mahi mahi. So the filet and mahi mahi were IMO dry and not as good as I thought they should be. The chicken was good and was very moist. Everyone that I was with had the same opinion on the food.
So now I am unsure what to do. FFIL is really into food and probably has one of the best palates I have ever seen, but seems to think that if we keep it simple with our menu that we will be okay. We are doing grand reception menu which is 4 dinner stations and CH with 8 passed h'or doeurves so I think we should be able to keep everything basic and simple. I did book contingent on tasting but now I am not sure if I should look elsewhere. FH and I love the place but I just can't seem to get past this. FH wants to keep it where we booked but I am really nervous. I also don't know if it was just our food because I saw that it was sitting out before they served it. What do you all think?

Re: Did my tasting...
hmmm this is a tough one....
On a good note I will tell you my cousin was married at the Bourne Mansion and everything was amazing!! The place is beautiful and the food was excellent. SO maybe the chef was 'off today'...
Did you ask if that specific person was going to be the head chef the day of your wedding?
If not I would request another tasting with the person who will be in charge the day of. If it was that person to be honest I would consider checking other places. Can you get your deposit back for such reasons as a poor tasting? I believe Food and Entertainment are the 2 most important aspects of a good wedding and would not take that risk..... JMHO.... I hope I didn't upset you....

Aww Kristen I am sorry! But like I was telling you today my cousin got married there and everything was fabulous!!! Ask for another tasting and tell them that you were unhappy. I am sure they will work with you further. If after the second tasting you still feel this way then look for another place, you need to be happy with everything! You don't want to stress over this.

Re: Did my tasting...
i think im going to agree--maybe ask for a second tasting, and if you still dont like the food maybe then you could change...because im a big believer in the food being the most important aspect of the reception

Re: Did my tasting...
you girls are the best. My mom and FHs parents are going to another tasting tomorrow at a charity event they are doing. Lessings is one of the vendors there so they are gonna try to taste some more of their food and see how it goes. I am already considering other options though since I have so many of my vendors already booked. Sorry to vent like this, I had to get it off my chest.

Re: Did my tasting...
I would definitely give them another shot. If the food isn't good the second time, I would really think about looking somewhere else. If food is important to you (and let's face it, don't we all love delicious food?!), then this is probably something that will be a deal-breaker.
aww im soo sorry maybe it was just an off day for them. maybe you can check and see if u can do another tasting with them?

Re: Did my tasting...
sorry to hear this. did they ask you what you guys thought of the food when you were there? i would call them and say that your family spoke about and you have some concerns. then try a second tasting. they should know its time to step it up. if they still arent to your liking the second time, then maybe you should look at other options :(
Good Luck!

Re: Did my tasting...
awww that stinks! i would ask for another tasting as another girl suggested....everyone goes to weddings for the food and free alcohol, so its really important that the food be out of this world.

aww I am sorry this happened.
Def go for a second tasting! You never know maybe it was sitting even though it shouldnt have been.
When I went for mine we hated the baked clams and that was a big thing for us. I know it is a small thing but I can only imagine what you are feeling being it is your actual dinners.
Do you have a next choice of where you wanted to have your wedding? Just keep an opened mind thats all.
Good luck!

Re: Did my tasting...
oh man, kristen, this is a toughie! To me, food is one of the most important things for my wedding, which was a major decision in why I chose my RH, so if it was me, I would continue looking. Also, because your RH really is beautiful, maybe it was just your food (but still, they should impress you!) so I would research reviews on the food there..... hope it all works out girlie!

Yes, we told them exactly what we thought, FFIL and my mom are not shy at all. FFIL even went into the kitchen which was quite embarrassing but he was really angry about it. I am going to have my mom call today to discuss our options. Thank you girls so much for your advice. I will be sure to let you all know how it goes.

09'er crashing. I heard that Bourne Mansion has a fantastic cocktail hour and excellent food so I wouldn't be worried.

Re: Did my tasting...
IMO food is one of the most important things. People will remember food and the entertainment. That being said, if you were not thrilled about the food, then think of it this way. If your booking is contingent on the tasting and you were not happy, then you have to think that they should be impressing you in order to keep your business. If you didn't think the food was all that, then you may want to look at other places. Especially, if you are spending good $$$, you want everything to be perfect.
