Did not meet minimum-fighting with venue!! HELP!!

Hi ladies,

So I got married a few weeks ago and there were some issues, I am fighting with the venue on getting some money back.

I had a wedding at a Hotel, as I wrote earlier this venue was undergoing renovations. They offered me some money back for this trouble.

I had to meet a monetary minimum as contracted. Kids under 4 were free and those under 21 were half off. I had a lot of people bring their children, so were shy of meeting our minimum.

I had the sales representative who was working with me come up with ways to use up this money, Adding in food, extending the reception by an hour, etc.

The day before the wedding I was speaking to this representative about what to do with the money and she was going to come meet me in my bridal suite the next morning.

The morning of the wedding, not a single person from the venue comes to speak to me. I had a wedding day of coordinator who was doing things for me, so initially I was not worried and pre-occupied since it was my wedding day.

So the hotel/venue representative doesn't meet me because she went into labor the day of the wedding and obviously went home.

I am in an argument with my venue about returning the unused money which is about $6500. They were responsible for coming to find me and figuring out a way to use the money and since they didn't notify me about my rep leaving due to labor or substitute her with another person who could have helped, I think they owe me this money back.

Any advice??

Is your venue the Allegria? I ask because I remember you mentioning it was an expensive hotel location on the water, and I know other brides have had issues with them before. I'd consult a lawyer. They recently were seeking a 2nd bankruptcy after having rooms seized for unpaid back taxes.

Glad to report I got my money back.

Standing your ground is key, the venues want a good reference and if they mess up they owe you.

Also, when negotiating a contract, always go with the absolute minimum they allow. You can always increase up to the week before the wedding and add in upgrades later.

Negotiate everything separately. Like if you wanted a venue with open bar-negotiate that price, then negotiate any upgrades, and the close to the event you do this, the more you will get off because they want to now just close the deal with you.

I had a few issues with the venue but no one else knew this, everything was in the end great and everyone had fun. Enjoy your wedding day. Take a moment to reflect on the day with your husband. Also, I needed a lot more time with hair and makeup then I thought so give yourself as much extra time as possible.
