did or are any of you going to tell the hall a lower number of attending guests than actually rsvp yes? i am trying to figure out how this works everyone that i've talked to says there are usually some empty seats and you should give them 10 less people

I am telling them exactly how many I have. Im not sure why you would say less.....I would want to amke sure there is no scrambling to fit people at tables at the last min.

Curious as to why people would under report.

because a lot of brides have no-shows.

i'm thinking to tell the RH 2 people less than the amount of RSVPs. It won't be too hard to squeeze 2 people in somewhere

BUT i will ask my RH first what happens if extra people show up ... if they don't have a good plan to fix this, then i won't do it

I am telling the RH exactly the amount of ppl expected. It would be so rude to make 2 guests stand around waiting for their seats to be set up.

Also, if you tell the RH 198 ppl, even though you are expecting 200, how do you know which table to pull the 2 chairs from?

In the long run, its not worth it, and just hope you do not have any rude guests rsvping yes, but not showing up.

I told the RH hall the exact number I planned on having-In the end we had nine lat minute cancellation we were able to fill 3 of the seat by having close friends who were not originally invited with guests bring guests. The RH packed up the 6 extra plates for us but we had already paid for the guests that did not show.

I am telling them EXACTLY how many people! I went to a wedding and my FH was in the bridal party and they did not have a seat for me or him and he was in the party!! It was not a good thing for the bride to find out. They couldn't make the table bigger because it was all set for 8 and the wedding began so we had to smush in at the table...to be honest I would have been SO embarrassed if that happened to me.

Most RHs will allow you to add on the day of you would just have to plan ahead and make sure you had extra room at tables. I gave WM a revised seating plan based on my cancellations so the tables were more balanced.

yes it is true that majority of the time things come up and people cancel or just don't show up. But sometimes it doesn't happen so ahy chance not being prepared. I am going to give an exact head count.

We gave them the exact amount and I wish I had told them a few less because we had 4 no shows. If you do tell them a lower number I wouldn't go as drastic as 10 less, I would only reduce the number by 3 or 4.

ETA: In response to some of the posts about seating.....For example, if you have tables of twelve, most places will set the table for 12 regardless of how many people are at the table so that it looks balanced so if you have 10 people at a table and have to add one or two people to that table last minute its not like they are going to be pulling out chairs and place settings in the middle of your wedding, that table will already be set up for 12.

I'm going to tell them about four people less. I'm going to make up a the seating chart including all my guests and I'm going to give them one missing two seats. So if everyone shows up I know exactly where to add the seats. My friends are laid back so I will probably ask them if I care if I remove there seats. I know they wont and this way they will know in advace.
