We weren't trying to TTC. This baby was actually a surprise (but a good one!). If we had went to original plan, we would've gotten married, saved up money, then had a baby. I have heard though that no matter how much you save, it's hard to prepare financially for a baby. Though, I do think it's better if you have a little something saved and you continue to save for the duration of your pregnancy.

For each of the kids we had to save up money for me to stay home for maternity leave. I knew I would be going back to work after the 3 months so I only needed that much amount of money. I am a planner so I researched how much diaper, wipes and formula would cost way before we had the kids.
We are no where near 'financially stable' and everything has worked out fine. You don't realize how you come up with the money, but, you do.

We had some money saved for my maternity leave but there was really no way to plan for every expense. I ended up spending $1K on my lacation consultant and rental pump. That was something we had no way of knowing we would need. But as with everything you figure it all out as you go along.

We didn't specifically save for a baby but we made sure we had money in a savings account in case we needed it.

We are trying to save now for my maternity leave - Since we rent - I want to save as much as I can to at least cover that for my DH.

We didn't have a dime saved, but it worked out for us. I even gave up my 8 weeks paid maternity leave becasue I had to leave my job since we moved to Ohio. Luckily we have had no major expenses beyond the normal hospital bills and day to day stuff, that since we don't go out and I don't shop as much, pretty much evens itself out.

We didnt consider our financial situation when we started TTC. For me, it was more important to be emotionally ready for a baby. If I waited until I was financially ready, I'd be waiting forever!

ETA - its just like the our wedding, if we waited to get engaged until we were financially ready I would still be single... You just make it work.
