DId You Get the Option....

DId You Get the Option....

... to purchase the picture files from your photographer???

We want to buy them and at first we were told we could and when we tried to iron out the details, 'she' reacted as if we were speaking a different language. I'm pissed.

Did anyone have the option to buy the files??

Appreciate the info.

Thanks

what do you mean 'buy the files'...get the pics on disc for yourself? if so, mine came on discs and hardcopy proofs part of my package.

Yes, that's what I mean. My photographer won't sell us the pics on disc... not apparently at any price. Crazy right? She's too afraid I won't order something from her I suppose. I spent a fortune on this crp too.

I've heard that certain photographers do this---- but sometimes after a year or sometimes two-- they will sell them to you b/c they realize they aren't going to be making $$$ from you any other way.
Read your contract- does it expressly say anything about the ownership of the images? if not maybe you can try to fight it.

I didn't think that photographers did this anymore; hold your photos hostage because they want to bleed as much money as they can out of you. I also didn't think they put 'PROOF' in big letters across all the dig pics so you can't print them yourself.

When we went shopping for a photographer, that was something we discussed ahead of time. The one we chose gave us all the original files and smaller resized altered files on DVD's along with the proof albums.

I'm sorry they're doing that to you! Good luck with everything.

they were automatically included. I am using Dan Wagnor and he is really nice and very reasonable

mine are included. this was a big deal for me so i made sure i would be getting the digital negatives so i can do what i please with them. check your contract, i'm sure you could get them after a year or so but it's so wrong for them to do that.

Re: DId You Get the Option....

I made sure to get a photog. that gave me full ownership of my images. No copyright and no name across my files. He sells prints and albums but his focus is on photo shoots and weddings, not on sales. His services cost a little bit more than those of photogs. who know that they are going to make sales later. He even told me where to get low cost prints.

so sorry to hear that!! is it in you k anywhere? you can definitely refer to it. also, is the e-shoot in you k? if so, maybe you can go to small claims and get reasonable value in return.
