FH got it appraised before he even proposed b/c he wanted to get it insured right after he proposed

Go to a reputable jeweler, I would get one who is GIA certified and they estimate the value of your ring

FH got it appraised and GMI certified and we got it insured along with our apartment insurance. It's really important because if you loose the ring or if it gets stolen you get the money back that it's appraised for

you can go to macys - but it has to be a big one, like the one in roosevelt field or herald square. they only charge you 10% of what the ring is appraised for. so if the ring is appraised for $10K then they will charge you $100

My jeweler appraised mine and got insurance through Jeweler's Mutual... SUPER easy.

we got my ring appraised at Argyle Jewelers in Babylon Village and they did it for free because that is where FH got my ring from. Insured through Jeweler's Mutual. Very easy process! Do it soon!!

i have heard that most times the rign is appraised for more than it was paid for- if you do it where you bought the ring do they just put the price paid as the appraisal?

I totally agree. i had a ring #1 which my FH appraised in garden city (ill get the name) and the guy was great- but THANK GOD HE DID bc they lied about the ring's color and all etc etc. and even though it was 4 karats (larger than i have now) it was worth less bc it was a crappy diamond. Long story short..... So he returned the ring and got the ring i have now.
SOME JEWLERS LIE ABOUT SIZE< CUT CLARITY AND WORTH PLEASE GET IT APPRAISEDDDD!!!!!
