Definitely get it appraised and insured. If you don't own or rent you can get a policy through Travelers.

i had the jeweler FH bought it from appraise it. They did it for free.

i've heard people use 'The Jewelry Judge' though

My jeweler appraised mine and got insurance through Jeweler's Mutual... SUPER easy.

I completely agree! Please please please get your rings appraised and insured! My first ring was stolen and its devastating!

i didnt need to get it appraised because my ring was certified-so i got insurance through state farm and they accepted the certificate

i havent done either but i would like to since my jeweler is an @$$...but i dont want to spend over 75

one of the first things we did was get my ring appraised and then insured under my parents home owners insurance, i was so afraid of something happening.

I went to genaro jewelers in Bellmore, really nice people. Although the appraisal was A LOT more than I expected. I thought it would only be around $20 but it was around $115.

I've heard your supposed to get it appraised at a different jeweler from where the ring was bought. I guess to make sure its real? LOL If you do have/get 2 appraisals (mine came with the purchasing jeweler's appraisal but I still got a 2nd), don't forget if you go with the higher appraisals you could pay more insurance. Just make sure the appraisal you submit with your insurance is more than your FH paid.

I totally agree. i had a ring #1 which my FH appraised in garden city (ill get the name) and the guy was great- but THANK GOD HE DID bc they lied about the ring's color and all etc etc. and even though it was 4 karats (larger than i have now) it was worth less bc it was a crappy diamond. Long story short..... So he returned the ring and got the ring i have now.

SOME JEWLERS LIE ABOUT SIZE< CUT CLARITY AND WORTH PLEASE GET IT APPRAISEDDDD!!!!!

Didn't you have a GIA certification? I didn't think they could lie on that...
