Did you give your job a def date when your out on leave

or did you just call them when you were in labor or did you wait until the dr said you might deliver. I plan on working till the end but my boss and a few co workers keep asking me when my last day is going to be.

Re: Did you give your job a def date when you out

My boss just asked me about this today. Since I commute into NYC every day, i told him I'd like to work that last two weeks from home (assuming I go on my due date) and he was pretty cool with the idea. Told him i would go stir crazy doing nothing but that I would not be able to be that far from home at the end.

Your doctor should be able to give you a much more reasonable estimate of when you can work up until when they examine you the last few weeks.

I told my principal my due date, which is June 2nd and I also told her that my last day is May 20th. She was surprised that I was going to work that long.

I think if you are using the FMLA there are certain guidelines that must be followed, including submission of request for medical leave by a certain date befire your date of leave. I usually put my last day as the friday closest to my due date, if I make it in to work the next Monday I just cancel my leave and add another day to my leave. If I got before the friday nearest to mu due date I just add more to my leave date and take away from the date that I return. I work right up ntil labor begins.

Its funny that you ask this. I had always been planning to work til the end. But now that the end is near, it is getting very difficult for me to work.
Yesterday, I let my boss know that friday was going to be my last day. This will give me 2 weeks before my due date to relax and prepare.
She sat down with me and went over all of my options, as far as using vacation time, maternity leave and FMLA....
I was very nervous to talk to her, but she was expecting me to leave before the baby was due. She was also shocked that I have lasted this long.

I am working till I give birth. I will be at home working for the last 2 weeks and from now until then I can work from home as needed. My boss has been great about this.

I gave my boss a date almost a month before I am due. I thought I'd work until the end my my husband thought I was nuts and now that I'm getting closer I'm glad I'm leaving when I am 'cause its already getting hard fr me at work and I can't imagine working until my due date.

I gave my boss a definite day when my last day would be. She wanted thta and had to plan things based on that. I said if I was up to it I would do some work from home in the interim...wound up baby came 4 business days before that definite date!!!

My due date was Dec 4, I worked until a week after that and delivered Dec 12 on a Sunday. I was so happy I saved my time to be with the baby, but my job and commute are not that stressful. Luckily my manager took it day by day with me, even though they would have preferred a specific date. Try to make it as long as you can, you will definitely appreciate the extra time with the baby later, especially if you are taking the standard 12 weeks.

With my son, I gave myself a week and a half - but that was really cutting it close - I was VERY uncomfortable.
With my job you have to exhaust all of your sick time before you get any maternity leave -so right now I have over a month of sick which I will probably need to use prior to my due date.

I think it would depend upon what your company's policy is regarding maternity leave. Where I work, there really isn't an actual policy. Whenever the doctor puts you out of work until the baby arrives is sick time, as is the time until he clears you to return to work. After that, if you want to stay out for a while, you have to take vacation time or FMLA (unpaid time).

Since I have a lot of sick time built up, I'll be going out about 3 1/2 weeks prior to my due date, and notifying my company about two weeks before that so they can make arrangements to cover my work while I'm out.

If I didn't have as much available sick time, I'd work as long as I could so I could have more time after the baby was born, but I would still notify work as to when I planned to leave.

With both of my kids, I told them I would work until the end so I could have my full 12 weeks with them.
I left on Monday afternoon with my daughter and had her on Wednesday afternoon.
I left at 2pm with my son and had him at 10:30pm.

I told my boss I would work up until 1 week before my due date, because I wanted to get some things done at home too.

Andrew arrived 3 weeks early, so all that planning went out the window!

I just let my job know when my due date was. I told them I would work up until the day I had the baby. My daughter was born on a Friday night (10 days early) and I called worked Monday morning to let them know.

That is how most of the woman at my company handled their FMLA leave. Afterall, you really can't give them a date if you are working up until you deliver. I had a few of the guys at working constantly asking me when my last day was, and I would just respond with, 'when the baby decides to come out'
