DId you hear what Oprah said about hairstyles re: weddings on her show yesterday?

Now I'm rethinking my hair. I have very long hair, and usually wear it all down. For my wedding I was looking to do a Catherine Zeta-Jones thing (that updo she did for her wedding).

Well, on yesterday's show, Oprah said don't make the mistake of wearing your hair in a way that you don't normally wear it...you won't look like yourself or feel like yourself. If you normally wear your hair down, wear it down.

Agghh, it makes sense in a way, agghh.

What do you think?

I did see that episode, but I'm still going w/an updo cuz I've worn them before (unless it looks horrible at my trial). It does make perfect sense tho.

Makes sense to me. I am wearing my hair half up and half down because that is how I am comfortable. I hate my hair all piled on my head.

I understand the mentality, but I personally think that if you want to look perfect all day, sometimes an updo is really the best way to go. I too have long hair and I know some days it looks great down and other days it gets frizzed or flat or any number of weird things happen to it. At least when it's up and really well done it usually stays put and nothing weird happens. Basically, sometimes updo = good hair day.

Whatever makes you comfortable. I usually wear my hair down everyday but I have had my hair in updos for special occassions and I love it b/c it stays in place, doesnt flatten and I can dance to my heart's contend and not feel so hot b/c my hair is sticking to my head and neck.

If you are very uncomfortable with your hair up you definately shouldn't wear it up.

I wear it up once in while and I don't want it to bother me that day so I will wear it up

That's so true, with an updo you really don't have to worry about messing with your hair throughout the night!

I guess I'll make my decision at the trial

I have long hair, and always wear it down, but I think I'll wear it up for the wedding. I never really feel fancy enough with my hair down, and yeah, it's different from how I normally look, but I usually don't prance around in a big white dress either, so I won't be looking much like myself anyway.

I like updos and down dos equally well..but Oprahs comment doesnt make much sense to me.

Most brides do everything to make them look like a better version of ourselves, right? You get the fancy dress, the perfect makeup, etc... why wouldnt you do something special with your hair?

Oprah was never a bride :P

I am wearing my hair half up. Plus, I don't like it when they put alot of gunk in your hair. You know...when your hair is stiff from gel and hairspray.

Sonicstef-
Well said! I am SO SICK of Oprah's wedding advice!!! She should give advice on things she has EXPERIENCE in!!
If you love your hair up, wear it up! My hair is almost to my waist, and if I can find someone that can do a fabulous updo then I'm going for it!

I AGREE

if i wore my hair like i do everyday i would be a mess 2 hours into the wedding it would end up in a ponytail

does this mean if you don't wear make up everyday like me you shouldn't on your wedding day . i mean really

Who cares what Oprah says, she never got married!!!

I think it's pretty immature to dismiss someone's OPINION just because they didn't experience it. It's an opinion, take it with a grain of salt.

Personally, I couldn't agree more with her. I don't want to look back on my pics 10, 20 years from now and wonder what the hell was I thinking?? Why'd I wear my hair like that? Why'd I wear so much makeup? I want to look like myself not like what every bride *should* look like.

I agree with her- that is why I wore my hair half up/half down.. I NEVER wear my hair up.. I don't think you need to be in an up-do just because it's a special occasion.

If your hair is done well- it will NOT frizz up. It was misting on the night of my wedding and my hair stayed perfectly straight all night.

I am very happy I wore my hair half up/half down because when I see my pictures I am looking at me- not some glammed up version of me.

Kathy - Don't listen to Oprah.

I think like everyon else said do what you feel comfortable with. I think it is important to stay withyour style though. Even if you wear it down all the time you may want to have a simple updo like a french twist instead of tons or curls and flowers.

Hey that's what the trial is for...

As someone else metnioned take into consideration the time of year you are getting married, humidity, chance of rain, etc. i.e. If you have frizzy hair you probably want to put it up on that day especially if it is humid. If you wear it all down it might look beautiful when you start but what if it's windy, what about everyone hugging you, what about dancing etc.

There are so many styles out there I am sure you can find a style that suits your taste and your look.

It's funny I was just talking to FI about Oprah's comment. I wanted to wear my hair half up or all up and FI would love for it to be all down.... I usually wear my hair down unless its yucky out then its pulled back....and FI thinks I look my best with it down...so maybe half up would be best....

I love that Oprah said that though....and its funny that so many of us caught that line.
