DId you hear what Oprah said about hairstyles re: weddings on her show yesterday?

Original post by Kathy116

Now I'm rethinking my hair. I have very long hair, and usually wear it all down. For my wedding I was looking to do a Catherine Zeta-Jones thing (that updo she did for her wedding).

Well, on yesterday's show, Oprah said don't make the mistake of wearing your hair in a way that you don't normally wear it...you won't look like yourself or feel like yourself. If you normally wear your hair down, wear it down.

Agghh, it makes sense in a way, agghh.

What do you think?

I don't agree with the comment either. I mean normally I don't walk around with a tiara but I did on my wedding day.

As long as you have a hair trial you will be fine.

I have long hair, and usually hide behind it. But I plan on wearing my hair up for the wedding, since its just so much easier all around. In August the humidity is nuts, so I would rather have it all back for easy maintance. To feel comfortable, I am wearing a waterfall veil, it will make me feel like my face is less exposed

If I looked like 'myself' on my wedding day then I would have wet hair pulled back in a scrunchie, no makeup and raggedy nails. Somehow I don't see that flying on my wedding day. Do what you want Kathy - you're a beautiful girl, I've seen your pics when you've posted them. You'll look gorgeous no matter what.....

I think you should do whatever you want- just b/c I have my hair in an up-do doesn't mean I'm not going to look like ME! I won't look back and think what was I thinking- I'll look back and remember that I felt special that day, surrounded by my HUSBAND and family & friends who loved me.
I do make-up for weddings too & every bride and bridal party I have done loved the fact they looked very natural, with a little boost on their day! I think every bride looks amazing- hair up/down- make-up/little make-up .... it's your special day and it shows no matter what you do!

I think the point was...don't do something just b/c you *think* that's how it's *supposed* to be done. Don't wear your hear up just b/c you think that's the way brides are *supposed* to look and won't look good any other way. Be true to yourself and what you're comfortable with.

no matter how you wear your hair...up..down..1/2 up and down...make sure its a flattering stye for your face. If you hate your hair up on your head...then do not wear it that way because you feel that a bride should have her hair up!!

When my friend got married, she had he hair completly pulled away from her face. She always had bangs, so she looked very different to all of us. We weren't used to it.

If you are comfortable wth yourself in the hairstyle you pick, than its probably the right way to go. Just be yourself.

Stef has a very good point, and I totally agree with what she said. However, in defense of Oprah's comment - I think the point she was trying to convey was - don't do anything with your that's radically beyond how you'd normally wear it. It can still be fancy, but not totally beyond what you'd normally look like...otherwise you will be unhappy with how you look, which can effect the way you feel on your wedding day.

For example - I have a very good friend who has medium length hair, and on most days, wears her hair down, with the front piece swept to the side (covering her high forehead), and either tucked behind her ear, or held back with a bobby pin or very small clip. For her wedding, she chose an updo, but wanted the front styled similarly to how she does it every day - with the side sweep.

On her wedding day, she allowed her Mom to 'puppet' the stylist and forced her into pulling all of her hair straight back off her forehead into the updo b/c her Mom thought it would look more 'bridal' and show her face better.

Well, the result is - she doesn't look like herself at ALL in her wedding pics (I've seen them) and she HATES every single shot where you can see her forehead.
I know this is a long-winded response, but I think it's a good example of what Oprah was trying to say with her comment.
