How about if it is a preist/rabbi you are hiring just for the wedding, and one that you don't know all that well. Should you invite or not?

I think it's always the tactful thing to invite them, knowing that 99% of the time they decline.

that's a toughy. I got married in my own home church, so the Pastors who did the ceremony I've known all my life. They would have been invited whether I used them or not. I'm not sure what the appropriate thing to do is for a Priest that you don't know. I would assume that even if you DID invite him, he'd probably decline anyway.

we are actually inviting 2 family priests that FH and his family are close to

Yes, he is a close friend of the family!

I personally think that if it is just someone that you are hiring for the day of and you don't have any relationship to them, I wouldn't. I am not planning on inviting my rabbi. I met her a few months ago and am paying her $900 to officiate at my wedding. She is providing a service and I am paying her for that. I don't think she will be offended in the slightest by me not inviting her.

Yes yes yes. Let them say no, but it is def the right thing to invite them. P.s. I am using someone I am not close to and am inviting them.

I was so glad I did. These folks are pros at dealing with people. Certain relatives will be really happy to talk with them. My rabbi did a great job making my crabbiest guests feel welcome!
