Did you know he was the one?

Did you know he was the one?

I'm curious about this. When you met FH, did you instantly know (or even know by the end of the night) that he was the one for you?

People talk about this, but I can't say I knew. He seemed nice, and I wanted to see him again, but I didn't think he could be the one until quite a few dates later.

We had been friends for 5 years before we dated. He was dating someone and I was dating his best friend. We were always the best of friends , could talk about anything. We broike up with our SO around the same time.. My break up with my ex was mutual and we remained friends and we all still hung out til one day My ex sister said you should hang out with Ted. You always get along so well.

Well my eyes opened up to a whole new light and and on that first kiss I knew this was it. 3 years later we are engaged.

Actually, no I didn't know. We had known each other for so long before we started dating. I knew he was the one when we were on one specific date and he went to kiss me and was so sweet about it and he began to shake a little because he was so nervous!

I didn't 'instantly' know but pretty soon into the relationship, I knew.

We led a parallel life for 15 years but never met. We both went to college together, lived two floors away in the same dorm but never met until March of 2003. We both interviewed for the same job at the smae small company, he got it and I didn't. Five months before we met we attended the same concert at the Downtown in Farmingdale, stood 15 feet away from one another and never met!!!!

Three months before I knew him and after one failed relationship of 6 months I was about to give up forever. I was so upset but then remembered a story of someone who wrote down what they wished for in a person so I did and put the note away. Six months into dating him I found the note in a drawer and he had all of the characteristics. Seriously, there were over 25 things on that list. That night my mother (deceased) came to me in a dream... this has only happened once before in 27 years... and told me he is the one. I woke up crying, the pillow soaked with tears of joy and said a prayer of thanks to her and then laughed and thought, 'Jeez mom, you really made me work for him'...LOL.

I always wanted to go to Italy but wanted to go with the perosn I would spend the rest of my life with. I never told anyone that reason and all of my friends said why didn't I go already. Well, I asked FH 6 months into our relationship if we would go the following summer. He said yes, and proposed to me in front of the Pantheon.

I have a great perspective on our life and love because I was by myself or dated others for so many years. FH was married once before and his ex was very troubled. We truly appreciate what we have and cherish it.

Um, we had our first date and I thought he was very polite and cute and a nice dresser (his shoes matched his belt) and I thought that I'd like to see him again. Later that night he sent me an email saying that he had such a nice time and the message was full of compliments. To be totally honest I thought 'here's a guy who is smart, nice, polite, employed, and totally emotionally available - it will never work.' I guess I was used to dating guys who were into playing games.

A few days later I was at work til 10pm and he drove into the city to pick me up, brought me tiramisu, and drove me home - and didnt try to kiss me. I walked into my apartment and told my roommate that 'I could marry this guy.' I didnt necessarily think that I would marry him, I just thought it was time that I date a really nice guy for a change. So glad I did!

Eerily, yes. And I say eerily because I was way too young to know anything and had a boyfriend at the time (at the ripe old age of 16!). But when I saw him I knew - and told him - that I couldn't date him right away because I knew I would be with him forever and I wasn't ready - yet - to make that kind of commitment. That still gives me goosebumps! We were friends for almost a year before we were 'boyfriend and girlfriend' and 9 years later...here we are as Mr. and Mrs.

I really really liked him the first time I met him, but was concentrating on that moment.....not the future. So my vote was for I liked him but didn't know he was the one.

HOnestly, yes. When I first met him at the age of 12! , I knew I was going to marry him, LOL. Even though people fought for us so hard NOT to be together, I knew I would marry him :)

Re: Did you know he was the one?

honestly, no. We met at a bar, and I intended to keep him as a 'one night stand' only. But he was persistent, and wouldn't let me not see him again After a week or 2, I agreed to go out on a date with him. And we had so much fun. But I didn't want a relationship. So I told him not to call me again, but he didn't listen. He kept calling and asking, and eventually he wore me down and won me over.

Definately- of course I was 33 and had burned so many times before I really didn't count on it. But at the end of our 12 hour first date (it was a match.com date too so we were really strangers)we ran into a friend of mine and I introduced him as my future husband. It just popped out and I was sort of joking. He just laughed. But he didn't seem too upset about it

I had a similar reaction! Think I dated too many players also, for too long, and I couldn't believe I had found a guy who is nice, polite, employed, no serious baggage, etc. Plus, I enjoyed being with him! It just seemed too good to be true.

We were dating about 2 months...and I was washing dishes...he walked over to me and washed our hands together in the sink...at that moment I knew that he was the one.

Funny how we can convince ourselves that dating players can be exciting and we think the dysfunctionality of the relationship is just passion and drama - and my first thought when I met Neil was 'he's too nice - I know where I stand with this guy - where's the drama?'

Not at first. I knew him through friends for a year or more and then we got together one night when I had far too much to drink. I thought it was a once-off (and kind of hoped it would be) but he won me over. Less than a month later I knew he was the one

I said it right away, but i was young so people would laugh at me. it wasnt an easy road getting him to perfection, but we made it!

After our first date he dropped me off and drove home. When he got home he called me and said, 'I just wanted to say goodnight' Now, I know that phrase doesn't have much romanticsm or sentimental value but he is the first guy that did that, ever! Ever since that conversation I just knew he was the one.
