I'm curious about this. When you met FH, did you instantly know (or even know by the end of the night) that he was the one for you?
People talk about this, but I can't say I knew. He seemed nice, and I wanted to see him again, but I didn't think he could be the one until quite a few dates later.

Definately- of course I was 33 and had burned so many times before I really didn't count on it. But at the end of our 12 hour first date (it was a match.com date too so we were really strangers)we ran into a friend of mine and I introduced him as my future husband. It just popped out and I was sort of joking. He just laughed. But he didn't seem too upset about it
OMG Christine!!! I can't believe you introduced him as your future husband Actually, it was a brilliant idea because if he was one of those jerk/idiot/loser/dysfunctional/creeps we usually ran into for years he would have freaked out and you would have known sooner he WASN'T the one

No, I didn't know for a while. It was a slow realization, but a very happy one.

I didn't 'instantly' know but pretty soon into the relationship, I knew.
We led a parallel life for 15 years but never met. We both went to college together, lived two floors away in the same dorm but never met until March of 2003. We both interviewed for the same job at the smae small company, he got it and I didn't. Five months before we met we attended the same concert at the Downtown in Farmingdale, stood 15 feet away from one another and never met!!!!
Three months before I knew him and after one failed relationship of 6 months I was about to give up forever. I was so upset but then remembered a story of someone who wrote down what they wished for in a person so I did and put the note away. Six months into dating him I found the note in a drawer and he had all of the characteristics. Seriously, there were over 25 things on that list. That night my mother (deceased) came to me in a dream... this has only happened once before in 27 years... and told me he is the one. I woke up crying, the pillow soaked with tears of joy and said a prayer of thanks to her and then laughed and thought, 'Jeez mom, you really made me work for him'...LOL.
I always wanted to go to Italy but wanted to go with the perosn I would spend the rest of my life with. I never told anyone that reason and all of my friends said why didn't I go already. Well, I asked FH 6 months into our relationship if we would go the following summer. He said yes, and proposed to me in front of the Pantheon.
I have a great perspective on our life and love because I was by myself or dated others for so many years. FH was married once before and his ex was very troubled. We truly appreciate what we have and cherish it.
Theresa, that is such a wonderful story!!!

So true! He just laughed along- that's when I knew I had a good one. Trust me he really thought I was kidding or he would have booked!
By the way Theresa- I love your story- so sweet- better than anything on a wedding story. You really deserve someone as special as your FH- I am so glad you found him.

Re: Did you know he was the one?
No, not at first. I think that it took me a couple of months...
Apparently he knew right away because the morning after our first date he told his best friend that he could see himself marrying me.

Re: Did you know he was the one?
No, I didn't know he was the one. We had worked together for over a year and we would chat when we ran into each other in the copy room or the break room. Once in a while we'd go out to lunch together. I enjoyed talking with him and I thought of him as a good friend. Then on April 26, 2000 he unexpectedly kissed me in the elevator. I was in total shock! He told me he had been attracted to me from day one. I, however, was unsure about him (I had also recently separated from my husband and wasn't really thinking about a relationship). I avoided him for about 2 weeks until I realized I wanted to be with him. Five years later - here we are!

We were dating about 2 months...and I was washing dishes...he walked over to me and washed our hands together in the sink...at that moment I knew that he was the one.
That is sweet! And Teresa, your story gave me chills!
I knew too.....
I met DH online. Neither of us were looking for love at the time - we were just in a regular NYC chat room. I was in a failing LDR at the time. We chatted on the phone for 2 months before we met in person and the instant I saw him I knew!

I didn't know. When we first met I was dating someone else and we were just friends. Well 2 years later after we were dating for about 4-5 months he told his father that he doesn't trust me being in my car (it was an 86 excel, smart man) and then I knew.

Not when we first met. We were in totally different places and were friends for over three years before we got together. But I knew he was the one when we had our first kiss.
