Did you open a bank account for your son/daughter?
DH and I want to open a bank account for our son but would like to go to a bank that has the best interest. Just wondering if any of you opened an account and what type of interest you are receiving from where? Thanks.

Re: Did you open a bank account for your son/daughter?
we opened a college account for both of the girls, I forget the # of the type of acct, but it's something like a 5920, my mind is drawing a blank. I use citibank and the take $100 out per month, it is in my husband and my name so they can't touch it when they turn 18, they can only touch it with our permission, which is good because a lot of accounts automatically tuern into your child's possession oncve they hit 18, and I know that if I had a few grand at that age I would have definitely spent it unwisely.

We have an ING account for Emma and we will open one for the new baby once its here. They will both be in our names. They have the best interest rates from what Ive seen. We also have a Upromise Acct which is divided between the 2 kiddies.

Re: Did you open a bank account for your son/daughter?
Upromise is where you shop at certain Co's, use your CC's at certain stores, buy certain products at the supermarket and they give you back a percentage of the money you pay for the product which you then turn around and use toward a 529 savings plan for collegewww.upromise.com

We opened a UTMA Savings account for her which I am the custodian. I can close it when I am ready to turn it over to her
