I put 1/2 hr earlier
ETA: If I was getting married at a church, I probably wound NOT have done this. I'm getting married at the hall, and they have a reception in the lobby before the ceremony where they serve champagne and strawberries, and everyone gathers. So there's something to do for those who show up at 11:00. In a church waiting, it's different .... I've been to weddings (at churches) where the bride was almost an hour late and it pi$$ed me off a bit. Maybe because I'm always on time for the ceremony.

Hmmm... our ceremony is at 1... should I put 12:45? How do you write 12:45 formally on an invitation? A quarter before one? What if people read that wrong and show up a quarter after one? (I stress about crap like that)
Also, there's an 11:30 mass at our church, that will be over by 12:20ish... so at 12:30, there may be people still filing out. Our ceremony is at 1, but our ceremony musicians said they will start playing at 12:30. What should I put for the mass start time?

Geez, this didn't even occur to me to wonder about. Good thing I didn't order invites yet.
Sarah, I think if your musicians will already be playing that you should put down an earlier time, however I don't know how you would write 12:45!
If i put down an earlier time, I would have to put 2:45! eek!

im going to put an earlier time as well. im debating between 230 or 245. my ceremony is at a church at3...so i am thinking 245. my sis had her ceremony at her hall and out a half an hour early and it worked out fine...giving people time to mingle beforehand.

Your ceremony will start at 12:30. The VYC has a champagne reception for a 1/2 hour before the ceremony.

Yeah mine starts at 12 but they are serving champagne at 11:30, it's good way to get people to come on time.

Re: Did you put down an earlier ceremony time on invites?
I was advised to put a half hour earlier on the invites andf then I really thought about it. Most people try to get their earlier to begin with, and if you put a half hour earlier than some people may be there a hour before the ceremony. I dont want anyone to be upset that they were waiting around

Re: Did you put down an earlier ceremony time on invites?
Wow, we must be crazy because we put an hour earlier on ours. The entire family is known for being exceptionally late! We figure for those that come in early it would be a great time to stroll the grounds, take pictures and sip on some champagne. I just don't want late comers to stroll in while I'm walking down the aisle.

I am going to write:
twelve forty-five in the afternoon
You can write:
two forty-five in the afternoon
Clear. No room for confusion. Still written formally. Early enough for the late comers to be on time. Late enough for the early birds not to be pissed. They still get to mingle (and listen to ceremony music while waiting... in my case, the string trio). Late enough that they won't interfere with the people leaving my 11:30 mass and won't see the entire time of my florist setting up. I think we're good!
