Did you put your son in a Christening gown or suit?

Did you put your son in a Christening gown or suit?

You know me and my 'I am having a '

If I do have a girl, then she will wear the same gown that my grandmother, mother, aunts, sister and I were all Christened in. But the gown is Irish lace and not for a boy at all. I was wondering what you all did for your sons. (But no matter what there will be hat involved )

I have a heirloom christening gown that is all girl. Patrick's family has one that is very gender neutral.

Because we'd rather not have hurt feelings in either family, we will be buying a new dress if we have a girl, or a new suit if we have a boy.
I'd rather not have my son wear a gown, but that's just my opinion. I've seen other people's sons wear christening gowns and thought they looked quite handsome.

I put both of my sons in suits. Unfortunately, they could not wear the same one because my older son was 10 pounds at birth and we didn't christen him until he was 5 months old. My little one was christened at 6 weeks because he was very ill.

The suits can be adorable too!

Patrick wore the same gown that my whole family wore. It was made by my Nana from the same Irish lace she made my mothers wedding gown. It's over 45 years old.

In general, I think suits are more appropriate for little boys. BUT, if a boy is only a few weeks old when he is christened, you could use a gown provided it's not too 'frilly.' At that stage, they just look like babies - not boy or girl specifically.

I guess you decided not to use the train of your wedding dress for a christening gown?

michele, I am hyper traditional but I like the gowns - boy and girl. There is something visually about it that makes my heart melt.

My friend just had the Baptism for her son and he wore a one piece that looked like a white suit.

I'm w/ Jenny!!! My boy will be wearing this beautiful gown courtesy of his Godmother!! If Peanut #2 (God willing) is a girl, then we're going to have to buy her a special gown, too b/c Sean's is definitely *boy*!

Kathi I LOVE that gown!! It's lovely!

Everybody (including) the priest loved the fact that Patrick was in a 'traditional' gown.

Justin wore a tux, complete with a bow tie and tails!

Since we don't have an heirloom, I'm going to have my train made into a gown. It'll be traditional, definitely. Then, if we have a boy, I may 'change' him into something a little more boyish for the party. I love my dress & am very excited that the beautiful material will be used on such a special day for many years!!

Claud- my train is too girly/frilly for a boy and a girl will be in my Grandmother's gown.
I saw a long suit outfit that I liked the other day but I have not decided yet what I plan on doing. The baby will be Christened on 1/25 so he/she will be still rather young so I guess my options are open.

Michele, are you buying the outfit? I thought it was tradition that the godmother/godparents buy the outfit?

Let's just imagine Scott's brother BUYING anything for a minute, now let's see the Walmart outfit he would get us.

Barbara may want to buy it, but I will not ask her too. If she offers then that is fine but I don't want to assume either. But I would like to pick out either a suit or gown for the baby. You know me
