An Arizona man was pronounced dead at a hospital after he was found floating face down in a backyard pool at the Huntington home where he was staying with friends following his wedding the day before, police said.
William Cummings, 54, of Surprise, Ariz., was discovered by friends in the backyard in-ground pool at 8:50 p.m. Sunday, police said. Cummings had been swimming alone in the pool at 19 Briarfield Lane, police said.
Seven people, including his wife, were home at the time of his death. They noticed Cummings was missing and he was found in the pool, said Suffolk County police Det. Lt. Jack Fitzpatrick. One of those home at the time, a registered nurse, performed CPR on Cummings, but he was later pronounced dead at Huntington Hospital, Fitzpatrick said.
Cummings was married the day before, Fitzpatrick said. None of the people present at the home when Cummings was found in the pool were available for comment Monday.
