We are in crunch time. Wedding is less than 2 months away!
We are thinking of skipping:
1. Favors 2. Limos 3. Menus

Re: Did you skip anything? I'm trying to cut corners.
While ours is a year away, we figured out from the start what we wanted to do away with to save money.
-Limos -Favors (we may have an edible one though- homemade by FHs aunt) -Live Cocktail hour music(Our hall has a sound system and said we can make a cd to play) -Menu add-ons (Maybe)

no STDs, no FG, no RB, we're trying to do some of the RSVPs online (for our friends who we know are internet savvy), no aisle runner, limo will only be for arrival...i'm sure there's more that i'm forgetting

We are in crunch time. Wedding is less than 2 months away!
We are thinking of skipping:
1. Favors 2. Limos 3. Menus
1. Favors- we did a donation plus something else-(in my album) and a candy buffet for guests to take home- To eliminate an actual favor but have 'something' for guests- a favor donation would be ideal...Some people write something nice up and put it in a frame and keep it on the table near the numbers, or you can attach a little tag to the place cards- or you can mention it in your programs... there are so many ways you can do this and it wont take much time at all
2. Limos- Do you need them? Where are you getting dressed? Is your reception and ceremony at the same place? I recommend Sir Oliver Limos -they were wonderful for my wedding- see my review
3. Menus- We did them- they didnt take long, but this is something no one will notice missing...many weddings do not have menus- with a smaller amount of menu choices they dont seem necessary ... I would say with 3 or 4 choices/the waiter/waitress reading them off is fine. they are a nice touch, but I would not go crazy over it. OR can you ask a Bridesmaid to do it? or a groomsman? or your FH? DH basically did ours- I just gave him the information and some ideas on what I wanted it to look like

We skipped personalized Menus....our hall did the basic ones anyway and they were fine! You can see a pic in the following shadowbox.

Re: Did you skip anything? I'm trying to cut corners.
we got some serious cash off the budget by not having fancy CP's. just hurricane lamps, pillar candles and rose petals.
no live CH musician
used a photographer that gave us coverage for 10 hours, and all our proofs, negatives, and hi-res images....rather than paying for a big package with albums and parents albums, portraits, etc. (we will just do it ourselves in our own time)
no RD -- just had my mom whip up some rice & beans and pernil at her house the nite before the wedding!
no ceremony decorations--got married at hall and they provided all flowers and things like aisle runner, petal cones, etc. weren't necessary.

Re: Did you skip anything? I'm trying to cut corners.
I skipped:
No limo: getting a Towncar instead (only because my dress and I won't fit in my mom's car).
No favors: I didn't know this at the time, but most Jewish weddings don't have favors anyway.
No extras/upgrades at the cocktail hour--it's a pretty full menu as it is, and frankly, no one in our families can eat that much on Sunday at noon.
No ceremony decorations: aisle runner, pew bows, petal cones, etc. Our RH gives us white flowers on pedestals along the aisle, and I figured that was enough with the gardens in bloom.
Found real discounts at the $1 bin at Target. Those little silver picture frames that retail for $2-3 each on line? On sale for 25 cents each last summer, so I grabbed them. Same with little bubbles--a package of 4 was 25 cents.
A very small bridal party: two MoHs, two Best Men. Fewer gifts to purchase.
Borrowed a veil from a friend who was married last year. It's my 'something borrowed' and FREE.
Low-key, casual rehearsal BBQ at my mom's house instead of dinner in a restaurant.
Of course, despite all these constrictions, we went way overboard on the invitations and had to raise the flower budget, 'cause my budget, apparently, was ridiculously low. The best-laid plans....

Re: Did you skip anything? I'm trying to cut corners.
We didn't do menus. I had never seen one at a wedding before (and I've been to a lot).
Our hall ended up doing them for us which was a nice surprise
We did a donation favor. I don't view this as cutting corners (except maybe with the expense of wrapping paper and the time to wrap each favor). We donated what we would have spent on favors. As an added plus, my company matched the donation as part of their matching gift program.

Re: Did you skip anything? I'm trying to cut corners.
No STD's
Favors - We are doing a coaster set that costs .97 per person and adding our colors with a personalized ribbon.
Flowers - I will buy the vases for the CP's and the florist cut the price by half.
Limo - I'm riding to the church in my Mom's new Jaguar, the bridal party will have their spouces bring them to the church. We have 2 limos for 3 hours that will drive us to take outdoor pictures and to the reception.
Programs - I bought programs from a Christian book store for $9.95 for 200 programs.
DJ for CH and reception, no live music other than the ceremony.
RD - We are having a BBQ at our new home, and our Mothers (who LOVE to cook) will be catering the food.
Re: Did you skip anything? I'm trying to cut corners.
We didn't do menus or programs. We just did little chocolate truffles from Lindt for favors but we considered skipping that too. We didn't do flowers at the church, one of my friends set up pew bows but that was it.

Re: Did you skip anything? I'm trying to cut corners.
We printed up our programs and menus.
This one prob sounds awful but my mom didn't want any flowers. She doesn't like corsages and didn't want the small MOB bo-k becuase she was carrying her purse. Doing away with flowers for all the female family members not in the wedding party saved a small fortune.
The priest used the BP bo-k's to decorate the altar so we were able to order less flowers for the church.

Re: Did you skip anything? I'm trying to cut corners.
We're not doing Limos (maybe town cars for the parents) but nothing for us. We aren't doing menus (the hall does them). I am doing programs, but I plan on using card stock, nothing fancy and I am printing them up myself. I don't really want to do favors...but FH thinks we need to.

Re: Did you skip anything? I'm trying to cut corners.
Hmm lets see:
Favors: wrapped a couple of chocolates in a box and a donation.
Menus: hall provided them. if they hadn't I wouldnt have had them.
Limo: did pick up/drop off only
Veil and tiara: borrowed from a friend
no ceremony decorations, provided by hall
used cake provided by hall
did all low centerpieces

Re: Did you skip anything? I'm trying to cut corners.
Definitely skip the menus... if you're doing programs, skip those too. Those are a real time killer...
favors you don't have to skip if you don't want to, just becuase you can get so many inexpensive pre-wrapped items that favors can be relatively care free...
other things you could skip/modify if you're running low on time:
petal cones or other 'toss' items (can also ask florist to do)
flowergirl basket - get an easter basket and stick a bow on it.... 1 trip to michaels and practically no effort.... easier than surfing the net for hours looking for something perfect....
do you need the limo? If not, heck yeah don't get one!!! so much $$$ saved!!!!
BM / GM gifts - if you didn't do it already, get a gift cert for a massage or spa visit... no wrapping
