I'm trying to get all of my tip envelopes together for Saturday and I am a bit confused about this. Am I expected to give a tip, PLEAE someone tell me what the heck I'm suppose to do TIA

alot of them get offended if you say you are 'tipping them' they like to get donations to the church'

No. We're getting married at the church, which requires a $550 donation. We're not going to be tipping the priest, though.

No. Since we're getting married at a church, we won't be tipping our priest. He gave us a huge deal though since FH is a Marine with two deployments and only made us pay $160 for the church 'donation.' We will be donating more on the day of the wedding though.

I don't think we tipped our officiant, I'm pretty sure we just paid him the remaining balance.
However, we had sent him an invitation to the reception.

In my church it is a $750 fee..not a donation..so I do not think I need to tip the deacon who is marrying us I think the fee should cover it.

I personally am not tipping the priest. He gets to keep the $450 'donation' that i have to give to the church, i thought that was tip enough for him lol But thats just me

our officiant is a close family friend and a huge bosox fan. we got him realy expensive tickets to teh yankee/redsox game!

He is a friend of DH so we paid for his ticket to LI/Hotel/Food. After we got back from our HM we sent him a Macys giftcard. Nothing major.

We're getting married at our CH - by Pastor April..are you supposed to tip???
I'm re-posing the question again because most of you are getting married in a church and a fee is normal...but i'm paying directly to Pastor April....so do I tip???

I got married at our RH and responded above, we didn't tip our officiant.

Yeah, I'm not getting married in a church either and we were just talking about this last night... If your paying an officant a fee to do your wedding (and she works for herself), isn't that enough? She makes 100% profit, since she isn't splitting them with a company. Also, are we expected to send an invitation to them? If so, do we include a guest? And who do you sit them with?

I have no idea who my officiant will be - since we are getting married at the RH, most likely the deacon from my church will not do it - but I plan on giving him whatever he charges, that's it. I don't think I will invite him to the reception -- chances are I will only have met him once or twice, and I don't think just because he is marrying me he should be at my wedding. If for some chance I do invite him to the wedding, I certainly wouldn't invite a guest. (I'm not inviting guests for people *I KNOW* that aren't dating someone - why would I invite a guest for a minister I don't know at all??)

It is not rude to tip the priest. They would appreciate it. The church fee is never seen by the priest, it is more of overhead charges and rental fees (at least in Catholic Churches). I bet he would appreciate the money.
Priests in a parish are usually given a salary but as you can imagine it is not very much. What some priests do is that they donate the moeny they receive either to the parish's Outreach Center, St. Vincent de Paul charity or a charity of their choosing.
Trust me they would be appreciative of receiving a thank you envelope. All you have to do is say, 'Thank you and this is for you'.
If you are not getting married in the church and it is being done by someone you actually hired then there is no need to tip them because they get all the money for their work.
