Its a huge deal to me, that I'm graduating, but I'm graduating from Stony Brook and think the actual ceremony will be a huge boring deal. Not sure if I will go.

I went to my SB master's grad., but just my departmental ceremony where they announced my name. The huge ceremony that was undergrad and grad was long, hot, and boring, and I didn't want to sit through it so we left. It wasn't a huge deal to me because I started my doctoral program shortly after and know I'll go to that ceremony. Only my mom and DH went to my master's ceremony, and DH surprised me (I thought it would just be my mom because he said he had to work).

The SPD ceremony was at 8 or 9AM, followed by a small departmental breakfast, and then the large ceremony if you chose to go. Not many grad. students went to the large ceremony in the football stadium. This might all be different if you are graduating in December--I know that's a much smaller ceremony. I got my graduate certificate in December and didn't go to that.

ETA: My LIW friend (and real life!) Tara also went to my graduation to cheer for me!

I went to my graduate school graduation...it was nice.
my parents and grandparents and Dh were all there (only he was still a boyfriend then ) and they brought me flowers.

Not a huge deal....but I'm glad i went

I had such a stressful time when I was going through my Master's program (working full time and also studying for CPA exam) that I chose to attend the ceremony. I felt like it was a great accomplishment for me and gave me some closure. I am glad I went. FH has 2 graduate degrees and did not go to either graduation. I guess it just depends on whether it will mean anything for you.

i am definitely going! i graduate in may with my ba in psych at st joes. i am happy to attend the ceromony, i worked hard to earn the honor! i'll be going to grad school next fall and will definitely attend that ceromony as well. my fi will definitely go, and i have no doubt that my mom and some of my close relatives will go and my fi parents as well. its a big deal for me bc i will be the first in my family to attend and graduate college. i want them to make a big deal about it bc i work my butt of working fulltime and attending college fulltime. ~lacey

I went to mine, but DH didn't go to his. He didn't want to.

Didn't go - I guess just b/c although it was a big deal that I was getting my master's, I already had gone to my undergrad graduation and that was enough for me...with grad school it was so much less personal and more about just getting the degree. Undergrad graduation was the final chaper in 4 years away at school.

I didn't go because it was the same weekend as my sister was graduating with her masters from Duke. So I went down to NC for her graduation. I kind of regret not going. I think it would have been nice to have that final ceremnoy to know you are really finished. And i know this sounds terrible...but i felt that since i didn't go to graduation the fact that i got my masters degree was just passed over.

neither FH or I went to our grad school graduatin at Dowling... i just didnt feel as a part of the school as i did with my undergrad college... besides it was all the way at the nassau colesium at the crack arse of dawn and would have been huge and a hassle... no regrets about not going!

I am glad that I went but looking around it was weird because I didn't really know a lot of people. My undergrad was more meaningful

I forced DH to go to his @ Columbia - It was a really small executive program and he complained the whole time - But when it was done he was happy he went

i went to my law school graduation . . .it was fun.

NOOO!! The defense was enough for me. Most of my PhD classmates did not go to graduation either.

I didn't go. They didn't have students walk across the stage, so I just picked up my diploma at the registrar's office.

I went to both of mine - undergrad up in Syracuse and grad school at Hofstra. Though I finished grad school in December of 95 and we were snowed out of the original day. We had a make up. My graduation dinner had to be at the Seacrest Diner. My parents were proud to see the fruits of their labor in a robe or two. And dammit I earned that master's hood!
