Difference between Maid of Honor/Matron of Honor??

My little sister and I was discussing what's the difference between the maid of honor vs. matron of honor. My Mom believes that the maid of honor isn't married but the matron of honor is. What do you ladies think??

Are you ladies having more than one maid of honor?

A matron of honor is married, and maid of honor isnt....

You can have one of each...or 2 of one...or as many as you'd like. Is your wedding girl!

Your maid of honor can be married though, ive only ever heard the 2 different terms used if you are having 2 and one is married and one isnt.

Matron= married
Maid= not married

I dont think there is a rule about how many you can have. I have seen some of these crazy wedding shows where ppl have 3 sometimes 4. I only had one, would have liked to have 2 but I only had 3 girls in bridal party so I didnt want to make the other girl feel awkward by having 2 matrons of honor...jmho.

Matron is married.

I also have one of each. Both are my sisters and wanted both of them up there, so it worked out perfectly

Yes, you do. I only had one & she is married and called her my matron of honor. I know it may be weird but maid of honor is specifically reserved for the unwed lady.
