Looking for centerpieces for a shower. The theme is pretty loose - girly jewelry pink chic.
Im trying to stay away from flowers since that is $$$ and this shower is probably going to cost me a fortune as is.
Anyone have something unique looking but inexpensive?

Re: Different centerpiece ideas?
i like the idea of using martini glasses and filling them with items so that they cant' be used if there won't be an open bar! the LARGE martini glasses are $10...you could use one per table as a centerpiece if you want to pull it together...although i think the glasses with the roses would be plenty for table decorations. and i just bought champage glasses at Linen's N Things last week - 12 for $10....i think they had martini glasses also.

Re: Different centerpiece ideas?
Ok, the big ones. That makes sense. I dont want to use those b/c it means way more flowers. Plus I think it will look a little more streamlined if there are several smaller ones rather than one big one. But I think im going to have to test it out and see. I dont even own a martini glass..hahahha
Im still not sure how i feel about using the glasses and then not serving the drink. So I want to keep looking for other alternatives.
If anyone else has some ideas, Im all ears.

Re: Different centerpiece ideas?
Hhahhaha. Not exactly the look Im going for.
( Just to be clear, Im not doing a Sex in the City theme. I was just trying to describe the look Im going for. I think a lot of shower go the country/hearts/garden way and Im going in the opposite direction. )

Wedding Barbie centerpieces..ahhahahhahahha - good one.
FYI: I am NOT doing a Sex in the City theme. I was just using that as a way to describe a more urban chic feeling.

Re: Different centerpiece ideas?
I actually had a sex in the city themed shower.. it was fabulous.. My sister did the large martini glasses with hot pink tulle and had the pink champagne punch in martini glasses.. it was great.. the invites were in the same hot pink with black lettering and the NYC skyline..

Re: Different centerpiece ideas?
they sell these mini porcelain high-heeled shoes at the dollar store by me......i see fake gem-studded sunglasses and mini highheels on the tables....lol. lots of leopard print.....maybe makeup bags filled with stuff?
City Party-- If your bride lives in a city or is moving to one once she gets married, the city party is a great theme. Guests can give the bride gift certificates to all the hottest restaurants, spas, stores, etc. Decorations can be themed around the city that the bride lives in and you can go to her favorite restaurant or make chic foods at home.

Re: Different centerpiece ideas?
Thanks nees. That is a great idea but she is not moving to a new city and she is doing the traditional registry thing.
I dont want to go overboard on a theme...i just want something chic looking without having to buy a lot of flowers. Thats why the shopping and the shoes, etc.. things dont work - b/c that is very kitchy which Im trying to avoid. There will be about 10 tables so it needs to be something fairly reasonably priced too.
Such a problem.

Re: Different centerpiece ideas?
oooh i love this stuff!!
I love the martini glass idea
But I agree without alcohol having the maritini glasses may be a little wierd. There are tons of unique vases or glasses that you could fill with pink marbles, beads, or something with silk flowers in pink which may be cheaper....
you know me with illumination, so chic!
That gel stuff in a color could work too
You could even have the gel or beads and then just a few flowers on top kinda like this...
Your going for trendy chic. This could be going out on a limb, but I'll say it anyway. How about cute pink tiaras with rhinestones or feathers. Im not talking about the chintzy ones you get at party city. There's a girlie store in the smithhaven mall and roosevelt field. Then for favors they have shimmer bubble baths and glittery sprays in purple and pink. It might sound childish, but if set up properly it could def be diva-ish!!

Re: Different centerpiece ideas?
I have found the solution to your problem....... a cookie tree. Bake some theme related cookies, (liked hearts or a wedding cake or bells, use cookie cutters) poke a hole in the top of each one before baking. Decorate the cookies, you might want to 'paint' the back a solid color. Get some dowels (small wooden rods) from like Michaels or Home Depot. If you are good, you can drill holes if not, tie it together with rope or raffia in the shape of a tree. Tie the cookies with pretty sting and wha-la, you have a cookie tree. At the end of the party, you can give the cookies away as the favors. I saw this in Holiday Cooking 2003 and thought it would be a great c-piece for a shower/e-party.

Re: Different centerpiece ideas?
Instead of driving ourselves crazy, we just always use balloons! that's it..good 'ol Balloons. We change up the colors and try to add a cute weight to each one. I loved my balloons, they were silver and a deep red! My friends were navy/silver, and recently red/silver! We all agreed that this would be the easiest thing to do! I have to tell you though, the big Martini glasses are great!

Re: Different centerpiece ideas?
What about pink cotton candy in a low clear glass vase with flowers resting on top of it. It's girly, chic, and CHEAP.
or
Since it is a brunch shower, how about filling low dishes or vases with lemons and limes?
FYI-Costco is a great resource for flowers at unbelievable prices.
