Different Languages

Different Languages

Ok so I am marrying into a New York Italian family and I sometimes have to stop and think about some things they say Examples:
Chicken Cutlets--in my neck of the woods they have always been known as breasts
Breakfront--to me it's a China Cabinet

Do any of you hear this?

Well, I am 1/2 Italian, but I;m not sure it's just an Italian thing - my mom who was of Irish decent also said it - we always used 'cutlets' and 'breakfront'
Maybe just a NY/LI thing?

I am pretty sure it has to do with different regions of the country.

Re: Different Languages

Could be. My parents are 1st generation Italian. Their parents use all these words that are half Italian/half English -
Example:
Baccouso (back-cow-zoo)= Back House, as in bathroom - as in Wassa matter, do you have to go to the baccouso?

It's pretty funny actually when the phrases come out of my mouth at work or something and my co-works are like what's 'Botegia Di'Sorta?' It means your 'sister's bottle' - no meaning whatsoever, but you say it when you get mad or something. It's all very strange!
