Different weddings
So I went to my first Australian wedding since I have lived here. They are pretty different then here.
First the alcohol was only beer or wine. The ceremony was outside, but there werent enough chairs for everyone to sit down; there were only enough chairs for the close family. The cocktail hour was nice and outside with a view of Sydney city, but again there werent enough chairs again. Only a few trays of food were passed around and I found myself looking out for the food as it came out of the kitchen....I was starving.
We were outside for about an hour and then we moved into the reception area, which was beautiful. It was crowded and there was a 'dj' there who played a few tunes and a small dance floor. No introductions were done. We received our food in courses. Chicken and salad and some veggies, served family style was first. Then the next course was beef, served family style again and then fish served family style again. I must say I enjoyed the food and I like the family style option a lot.
During this time music was played and there was no dancing. After the meal came the 'speeches'. The speeches lasted an hour and a half
. Everyone close to the family gives a speech about the bride and groom. Her parents gave a speech and since the groom came from a family of 7 siblings each of them gave a speech. The bride's best friend gave a speech. And these were speeches. These people had pages to read aloud. The groom's speech was a half hour. I was so bored, and Dh and I were sat at the kid table with his brother and his GF. I asked and that is normal to give speeches that long in Australia. After the speeches they cut the cake and then had the first dance. After that dancing began.
It was like everything was in reverse...
It was an experience.....
