Digital camera question

Digital camera question

I am not electronics savvy in any way. I want to get my FH a digital camera as part of his wedding gift. Does anyone have any recommendations for a good one? TIA!

I'm an electronics spaz so I don't know pixels or anything but I suggest getting something with a big screen. It's so hard to see the pictures with a tiny screen. Our screen is almost most of the camera and everyone comments about how great of a feature it is.

i'm also an electronic spaz, but get the higher number of pixels you can affort. There are now 10's on the market. Make for better pics.

I really don't know electronics-but we got a canon from FILs for x-mas and I love it! They also gave us a Canon printer that is phenominal-works excellent to tranfer & print photos from your camera and computer.

I love my Nikon CoolPix. When I took digital photography classes in college this is what we used and now I'm pretty Nikon loyal.

Re: Digital camera question

I got FH a digital camera when he got deployed the second time.

I used to work for Canon, so I've learned a bit about cameras and have 4 digital cameras!

I do recommend Canon Powershot cameras--they're great and last and have lots of features. Most not only have a screen in the back, but also a viewfinder too so that you don't have to necessarily use the screen.

I currently have the Casio Exilim, which I love! It is smaller and more compact than the Canon and has 7.2 megapixels with a large screen in the back. It has no viewfinder and is amazingly easy to use. You can choose the best setting in which to take your pictures (outdoor, low-light, candlelight--there are about 23) and it takes a good amount of video too! What's great about it too is that if you are taking action shots, you can take shot after shot--most digital cameras have a few seconds delay between shots to power up. With this one, there is none.

Unless you are a professional, there really is no need for anything with like a 10 megapixel because after about 6, the difference in pictures is almost none for the regular user. Also keep in mind, the higher the mega-pixel, the less amount of pictures you'll be able to hold in your memory card.

FM if you need more info!

Depends on what kind of camera you want to get him... just a point and shoot camera, D-SLR, SLR like, etc.
Try checking out these 2 sites for reviews and stuff:
www.dpreview.com
www.dcresource.com

I've used them when buying my each of my digital cameras, and whenever I have bought them as gifts....very helpful.
