No matter what they say, there IS a difference between digital and film.

Even the most expensive digital cameras out there do not carry the depth and richness that fi;m has. Digital sometimes has barely noticeable halos around things. I don't know how to explain it, but it seems a little flat. It's a FACT that today's digital cameras only approach the quality of film (and I read about things that come out all the time in professional photography magazines)...

Also, the bigger you blow up a digi print, the more you'll see a difference

the upside to digital is that it's cheaper because there's no fi;m and no processing, you get your proofs back faster, and the photographer will almost always put the proofs online and/or give you a CD (this can be done with fi;m, too..but it easier w/ digital). Also, things like Black and White, retouching, color effects, etc are easier and more cost effective on digital. If you want a 'magazine style' album, most of the photos are printed pretty small, and have to be scanned anyway, so digital may be the way to go..

Some photographers like Artisan (I don't know who else does this) will shoot in film and then scan the negatives so you get all of the advantages of both film and digital.

I agree with MM. And I have spoken to photographers about it (one of our vendors in fact)..and they admit it (more willingly when you are not a prospective client lol) Digital has the advantages as MM said of the retouching etc but the biggest downfall is color related. Digital pics are crisp but film are more vivid, the colors are captured more true to life. Red for example is one of the hardest colors for digital ..hence the reason black magic roses can sometimes appear black in some shots, also some reds come out a different shade than it was in true color. I notice this alot since my BM dresses were red and the color is exact with the film but the digital pics I received the color is off Plus I notice it with friend's wedding pictures..we did a side by side comparison and mine were more vivid and I hate this word 'flat' but I dont know how else to explain it.

Digital is cheaper and you can get more proofs etc but the colors are not as bright as film especially when blown up as MM said. You start to notice the shortcomings but each has positive and negatives. I used an all film photographer and honsetly I dont have as many shots and that used to annoy me but what I do love is when people look at my pics and say..wow the colors are so bright and thats ALWAYS.. and about fading..yes it does happen more so with digital.
I must point out to be fair that I have had still imagery training and perhaps what a photographer or someone who does photography may notice, the average person may not..unless you put digital and print side to side. Then the difference is visible.
