Re: Digital vs. Film?
I am a fi;m person, all the way. While new digital technology does rival film and it makes it a lot easier on the photographer, it still loses some of the depth and richness that film has. If anyone has wednesday's times they had a whole special circuits section on digital photography. Honestly if it's a good digital camera, most people won't be able to tell the difference. Sometimes with digital you get these little halos, they almost look like the mitre lines you get when solarizing, they tend to look a little flatter. A lot of people who swore by fi;m have now moved completely to digital, so that tells you something, To me I want film, I want richness and I want 'real ' photography.

I agree with Mary I am a film person all the way and want film - but digital is supposed to be less expensive and they take more photos when they use digital - we are getting digital b/c FH is a computer person and its one of the only things he's insisting on b/c he thinks digital is better quality and says that if you get the CDs they won't deteriorate like negatives do - BUT you MUST ask for HIGH RESOLUTION CDs otherwise the quality of the photo if you try to make a print is horrible!!
I know there ware posts done on this topic before...you might want to run a quick searchin BHB.

Re: Digital vs. Film?
We got a film photographer. I had wanted digital because its easier to edit and make different styles in an album, but I loved the pictures that my photographer takes. I figured that everyone else at my wedding will take digital pictures and I can use/edit those images if I want to.

Re: Digital vs. Film?
I am with the others and am going with film. The clarity, depth, and beauty come through better on film than they do digitally. Also, my fear is that things will happen too fast to be caught on a digital camera. Although I want my photographer (when I figure out who it will be) to shoot digital as well, just not as the main camera.

So far we only visited one photographer and he charges the same price for digital or film which aggravated FH b/c he works in the business (his uncle is also a professional photographer for godiva etc) and it costs less for digital prints/editing etc and is easier for the photographers - charging more is making a huge profit!! So FH already said anyone who tries to charge more or the same price is not someone we want to do business with.

Re: Digital vs. Film?
I rather digital because if a great picture has a flaw it can be corrected and edited.
a good photographer should be able to provide you with the same quality pictures whether it's digital or film.
keep in mind when you talk about professional digital photos you're not getting a home camera (that many of us have) quality. you're still (and should be) getting professional quality.
photographers purchase (or should be purchasing) the best digital cameras out there.
digital is the future. film will be gone soon.....
and keep in mind photographers don't only charge us for processing the photos but for their time and skill. So, that may be why they still charge the same for digital or film.

Film pictures can be edited and corrected in a digital format. They just have to be scanned.

Re: Digital vs. Film?
Im a digital person for most pictures but I do agree that black and white is much richer in film. Thats the only real differnce, or so said MANY MANY MANY of the photographers I have asked about this.

Re: Digital vs. Film?
I think the quality of digital pictures is unbelievable. My photographer is using digital cameras, and he takes about 3,000 pictures during the wedding. If you have real film, it's hard to match those numbers.

Actually, it's just the opposite -- photographers catch shots much more quickly with a digital camera.

Yup, and a lot of photogrpahers do this. Loook for Goldi's recent post on BHB, there's awhole discussion on this subject.
