I am wondering if with regular film can they change the colors of the pictures?

Like if they take a pic in color how would they change it to black anbd white...I hope I dont sound foolish.

I prefer digital but I hear that your negatives of real film lastt much longer. Then again I have pics from the late 1880s that are still good so do the negatives or CD really count in 100 yrs?

From what i heard, there is no difference in price
Digital is better because you can have your pics on disc and change the images
Then i heard that film is better because they last longer

im so confused!!

There is no difference in prices from what I've seen. THe problem with digital is that sometimes files become corrupt and you lose pictures. Velvet uses film to take pictures. However, the have a machine that turns a film negative into a digital picture so that they can do what they would be able to do with a digital picture. I loved that they do this.

My sister is into photography and she told me classic film is better. I would have to look into though. If you decide on classic film for whatever reason, you could always scan pics after.

Re: Digital vs. film photography

My undergrad was in photography, and I used nothing but film. I started to use digital as well but will never get rid of my film body. From using both, i can give you my opinion, I hope it helps and you can FM if you have ?s.....

Wether you hire a photographer the does fim or digital, most likely you will get 'digital negatives' either way. Although digital technology has gotten alot better, i think it still can not compare to film. Color and BW film have alot more depth then digital and because it can be made digital, it has the same versatility. There is also nothing like a film camera for manipulating shutter speeds, apertures ect, which effect the outcome of the images. You can do this with digital as well but I dont think it is the same. I am definitly going to be hiring someone who uses film. To the naked eye, looking at albums- you may not be able to tell the difference.

ETA: the digital images created from film are of equal quality, if not better quality then digital images.

To the contrary, digital processing is cheaper than film itself and that is why you do not see a difference in prices; there is simply no film that needs to be developed;
as to quality of pictures - I have to disagree with the above. What the market offers nowadays is unbelievable; cameras come with so much to play with but unfortunately not everybody is able to utilize those features; I also believe that studios that purely use film simply refuse to spend money to update their equipment/ train their photographers. But that is just my opinion
Photography is a beautiful hobby but it is killing my pocket

Re: Digital vs. film photography

I went to see Verdi and Imagine studios, both use digital cameras, both said they used to use film, and its just alot easier since they switched over.

I have a 3rd apt on sunday with something in blue, who uses real film. Not digital, and does not photoshop their images. So i am excited to see how that comes out.

I will keep you updated!

i visited something in blue too...
they do GREAT work.... GORGEOUS!
BUT... i did find them to be VERY expensive and did not do some 'traditional' things that you might expect... (like thank you cards)

i heard that film can capture more depth and such and that the quality is better but i love the special effects that can be done to digital film. i would like a mix of both, but dont know if ill find that with the photographers i like.

but i guess u can do the special effects to traditional film...if they digitize then like velvet, right????

for those using digital - are the proofs that u get hi-res so that u can reprint yourself?

If you do digital, some photographers will put low resolution proofs online at a website where people can order prints. You should make sure that you photographer gives you “digital negatives” which are high res images of your photos on CDs or other media which are print quality images that you should have free right to do as you wish with. With film, most photographers are now giving the film, along with digital negatives (created from the film) which are high resolution, print quality as well. There are also some that I have seen that do both digital and film (they have a bunch of camera bodies that they switch between). You get more versatility that way I think. Of course everyone has their own opinion on what is better but I just think that using a film photographer, you really get the best of both worlds because you can have the film qualities and traditional prints along with non traditional digitally altered type images and prints. And I don’t think that people not using digital are doing so out of laziness or cheapness, I just think that they feel the same way I do. And actually, film photography equipment is extremely expensive as well, along with the film which is not reusable like a memory card is. One thing that digital will probably never be able to do is recreate the grain which film has (especially in high speed films). Of course photoshop has filters which replicate it but true grain and quite beautiful. You can compare it, I guess to a beautifully hand drawn image so a replicate created solely in the computer. I think there is definitely a difference. I’ll just add, I am NOT against digital photography by any means, I own a digital camera and I use them right next to my film camera when I go out to shoot but for my wedding photographs I would most likely choose one that uses all film or a mixture. There is something about having the negatives which I think is very special. Again, it is just my opinion.

Sorry if it sounds cheesy to be talking about photography like that but this is by far, for me the most important decision that I will make about my wedding even more so then the RH. Sorry for being so long!
