Ok so between Fh and I we have 10 nieces and nephews. 2 of them are being invited to the wedding because they are 17 and 23...the others are below the age of 13. Here is the problem...We are getting married at the reception hall. I would like to have my nephews there. They aren't going to have any job because we are not having a wedding party...just someone on his side and someone on mine. I want them to be at the ceremony but not at the reception. How do I handle the transition?

Re: Dilema
That is really tough because if their parents are invited, how are they supposed to leave after the ceremony?

Re: Dilema
THATS REALLY DIFFICULT, I'M ASSUMING THAT IF THEY WERE TO GO TO THE CEREMONY, THEY WOULD HAVE TO ARRANGE A RIDE HOME-WHICH COULD CAUSE PROBLEMS SINCE THEIR PARENTS ARE GOING TO THE RECEPTION-IT COULD TURN INTO A BIG HEADACHE (THEY PARENTS OF THE CHILDREN MIGHT FEEL INCONVENIENCED)-BUT IF YOU HAVE AN UNDERSTANDING FAMILY, THEN GO FOR IT.

Their mother will be my maid of honor. It is really tough....I think both of my brothers sons will be devasteated if they don't see me get married...any help would be great

Re: Dilema
IF YOU FEEL THAT PASSIONATELY ABOUT THE KIDS BEING THERE, THEN WHY NOT JUST HAVE THEM AT THE RECEPTION? I KNOW IT CAN GET EXPENSIVE (VERY EXPENSIVE)-BUT ITS ONCE IN A LIFETIME, AND CONSIDERING HOW MUCH YOU'RE ALREADY SPENDING, ITS PROBABLY A SMALL PRICE TO PAY TO HAVE YOUR NIECES AND NEPHEWS WITNESS ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT DAYS OF YOUR LIFE.

Re: Dilema
Because their parents want to enjoy the wedding not run after them....plus we both agreed that there wouldn't be any kids...the boys can be very crazy.

Re: Dilema
IMHO I dont think you can invite them to the ceremony and not the reception? How are they supposed to get back home? Arent their parents going to be staying at the reception?

Re: Dilema
Their parents were the ones who came up with the idea that they didn't want them at the reception. So shouldn't it be their headache? Or should I just not ask them to the ceremony at all?

Re: Dilema
Who is watching the kids for the day? Maybe you can ask them to bring them to the ceremony, take a few pics after and then that person can take them home.

Re: Dilema
Is it possible to hire a nanny for the reception and find out if there is a spare room or something the kids can be occupied in? Have the nanny have snacks, activities etc. When the reception is over, kids go home with mom and dad...

Re: Dilema
I think you either invite them all to everything or don't invite them. It's hard to kick them out after the ceremony. Since they're family, I'd consider not offending them more important than anything.

Re: Dilema
that's difficult. i say all, or none. if i were one of those parents, i would just assume leave the children home rather than going back and forth. i understand not wanting to have children at the wedding b/c lots of brides choose this, however, i feel that if the children are part of your immediate family they should be invited. i would be upset if my (future) children weren't invited to my brother's wedding.

Re: Dilema
I would go the babysitter route. I can understand wanting them to be there. Do they have a regular babysitter that can drive? Maybe offer to throw the babysitter a few bucks for gas back and forth to shuttle them? Do the parents live somewhat close to the RH?

Re: Dilema
What if you talked to the parents and had them ask who ever is watching them that night to pick them up?
