My brother was engaged two years ago, but the engagement broke off about a month before the wedding. My mother had purchased a dress for the wedding, and still has it. She asked me a couple of months ago if I minded her wearing the dress, since she spent a lot of money on it and never wore it. I didn't mind at all at the time, but now I think I do. The dress is black with champagne. The thing is, I think I want to have blue flowers and blue bm dresses and that won't match at all what my mother is wearing. I don't know what to do. I don't want to make my mom buy a new dress, because she spent a lot of money on this one, but at the same time I feel like blue would clash with her dress. Sorry if I'm being silly, just needed to vent a little I guess.

Re: Dilemma - MOB dress - kind of long
I honestly don't think she has to match. I think it's fine if she wears it.

Ok. Thanks. My FMIL is crazy detailed obsessed and thinks everything has to match and she's the one that's putting these thoughts into my head. I'm usually more laid back about things, but she's making me nutty.

I totally agree- it is easy to get carried away, and I honestly think that her dress will be fine. The colors are neutral, so they will not clash at all.

Don't even mention it. We all get a little nuts sometimes. She def. doesn't have to match...she's your mom...it's nice if she stands out. If FMIL wants to match then that's fine for her.

Re: Dilemma - MOB dress - kind of long
I just got married in March, and I, too, worried about the dresses of the MOB, MOG, and my stepmom. (I was viewing your board looking for my sister, who is getting married in 2006 - have not seen her yet! ) So, if you'll excuse some 20/20 hindsight advice from an 05er -
I think it is fine - your mom should wear what she wants. I was afraid my moms would look too similiar or wear the same color. I did stress over it, and it was a waste of time. My stepmom actually showed up in a dress not matching my mom or MIL, but in a color matching my BMs! You know what? No one cared. Everyone said how pretty the moms looked, and even though my BMs noticed my stepmom matched them, no one else really did. And it took nothing away from our wedding, which was truly beautiful. Your mom, as MOB, will be experiencing her own stress and worries as the big day approaches, so IMHO, I would let her wear whatever she feels comfortable in. That way, if she's comfortable, she's in a better place to support you! Good luck!

Thank you so much! Your post just put me at ease. I'm going to let her wear whatever she wants. If my FMIL wants everything to match, let her go ahead and match whatever she wants.

She really shouldn't match the MOH and BM, that's what separates her from your bridal party. She's got her own special role as the MOB and so it's better if she stands out a little. I say let her wear it!

I agree with all the other girls, I think she should wear the dress.
