Can anyone help me insert a map into word to put with the directions??

I would suggest that you go to mapquest to get the map you want. Then right click on the map and select 'save image as.' After you have saved the map image you can insert it into a word file. In word go to 'Insert,' then 'Picture,' then 'From File' and find the picture that you saved. After it is inserted, if you click on the image you can drag the corner of the map to adjust it to the size you want.

I got it into Word, but there is too much detail and I want to edit it. Is that possible?

Helen, in mapquest you can change the level of zoom on a map. It is on the right side of the map. Maybe this would help get rid of some of the detail.
