If the Whitestone has delays you can stay on the Cross Island another mile or two and take the Throgs Neck.

if you listen to the traffic reports and the cross bronx is bad, you can take the grand central all theway to the triboro bridge, and then take the major deegan or the harlem river drive to the GW bridge. my FI lives in jersey, so i make the trip regularly!!!

If you are coming north on the Cross Island, the Throgg's Neck is first...just want to clarify. :)
I drive the CI everyday into the Bronx, I find the Whitestone a much easier drive. (Why do they have that permanent lit up sign that say 'Best route to the Bronx... Throgg's Neck Bridge'? The bridge could have floated away and it would still say that!)

Actually the Throgs Neck is the first one you pass when you're driving on the Cross Island..and I don't know if you can get to the Cross Bronx Expressway from the Whitestone Brigde.

LOL agreed, but right now isn't there rough road on the Whitestone making it hard to drive?

When approaching the bridge, follow signs for the lower deck, I think it's usually less congested than the upper deck.
