Discrimination

Discrimination

Today is Dollars for Denim Day in my organization.

Everyone who contributed money for a particular charity got a sticker and was allowed to wear jeans to work today.

Except (because of the position I am in) ME.

And not only that, but my two supervisors are out today.

Should I make a stink?

I always take these things like this...

-Does it really matter that much to me?

-What will the end results be if I do make a stink?

-Am I willing to do this and deal with any unknown waves it may cause? Is this really worth my time?

-If I don't can I use this to my advantage later?

But that's just me.

I'm with Xelindrya on this one... in fact, I should stop and ask myself those questions every time I get mad about something!

I understand your frustration, CIMINOK -- I used to work at a company where everyone was allowed to dress fairly casually, except for the few folks on the floor where I worked (because that's where the CEO's office was, and he wanted everyone around him to look spiffy!)

Oh, boo-hoo...
The CEO isn't even IN today either!!!

I think discrimination is too strong a word to use in this instance. It sucks that you have to see others walking around comfortably in jeans, but really, it's not discrimination.

I know. It was sort of...an overexaggeration...to make a point...

I think I missed the point then. You were asking if you should make a stink about this, presumably because you felt discriminated against based on your position in the company...I thought you were serious.

Point being that maybe sometimes people make too big a thing out of little things.

I do appreciate your extremely intelligent/articulate response though-sorry if I misled you. I wasn't making fun of you or anything....

Yes, it's annoying that I can't wear jeans, especially since my supervisors aren't in...But in the end, really I don't care...I'm comfortable and probably would never actually cry: 'UNFAIR' to anyone.

I can't really say I understand what it's like to not be able to dress casually - I've got it really good here, and I almost never have to dress up.

But I wouldn't take it so hard, or make a big deal about it. Pants are pants are pants, and if you have to wear fanicer ones one day and less fancy ones another day, I don't see the big deal.

Now if you have to wear a skirt and stockings while everyone else is in jeans, THEN I'd take issue. Man, I hate stockings. Blech. Those were definitely created by men.

Before anyone gets mad about this, please re-read the first sentence of this post. Thank you.

I know you weren't making fun of me, but I think everyone else thought you were being serious as well. I don't think my response was particularly intelligent or articulate, but hey, thanks for the compliment anyway!

I like the way this was worded.
All is well.

Re: Discrimination

Kind of off topic, but I wanted to share it anyway.

The last job I had we had one stick in the mud that would not allow anyone to wear jeans on casual days.... well it was made known that the office was going to be closing and in the following two weeks I would be out a job, for the next two weeks I came in jeans and sneakers, sometimes even construction boots. The stick in the mud didn't really say anything... and at least I was going comfortably to my grave.
