Question for those brides who had these at their weddings...how many exposures were on the cameras? And how many of the cameras got totally used up? I'm trying to decide whether I should get cameras with 800 speed film and 15 exp. each, or ones with 400 speed film and 27 exposures. There's not much difference in price between them, the only real difference is that the ones with 15 exps are 'wedding' cameras...the others ones a regular....
What to do???

I don't have an answer for you, but I would really like to see what the other brides say.

Re: Disposable cameras
I read somewhere to get the ones with the fewist # of shots possible b/c they will never get all used and then it costs you more to develop them!! I wanted to do this also but a few past brides have told me it wasnt really worth the money for the crappy shots they got.. out of all the cameras and developing they only got a few good pics.. and nothing they couldnt live without for the extra money.

Re: Disposable cameras
.. i think your only suppose to pay for the number of pictures developed... so if you have a 27 exp camera and its only used upto 15, you can have just the 15 developed(since there would be no pictures to develope in the rest)...however im not sure how big a difference 800 vs 400 would make..

Re: Disposable cameras
800 speed film is for very very low light or high speed action. Not usually neccessary for tehcasual photographer but it could be helpful scince disposables don't have the greatest flashes. IF your weddign is outsdie during teh day, though, the pictures may get washed out.
I agree that a lot of the photos won't be keepers, but I'm doing it anyway. Its a little gimmick that will amuse people & keep the non-dancers (and the tweens) occupied.
The other reson I am doing it is because FILs wedding pictures burned in a studio fire( and 1968, not a lot of people had personal cameras) & they saw the disposable cameras at a wedding recently & thought it was a great idea & that haven't asked for much ( yet) so i figured its the least I can do, considering I am marrying their only child.
Its not really neccessary, b/c quite a few people have digital cameras or at leas 35mms, & will send us pictures, but for a small wedding, it won't cost us too much.
I was wondering how many per table though? ( 10 people) 2? 3?

Re: Disposable cameras
I would go with 400 speed film. Like Tourist said, there's no need for 800 film unless you're taking shots with very fast action or low light. Also, 1 or 2 cameras at each table should be fine.

Re: Disposable cameras
I am going with 800 speed film and 24 or 27 (i forgot which) exposures. The reason I got these is that they were onsale for 97 cents each the day after Thanksgiving at Staples. I got one for each table. I got 25 of them for less than $24! For this price, it is worth it even if all the pictures aren't used or don't come out good!

Re: Disposable cameras
I am getting 27 exp with a flash at 400 speed! Mine are not wedding designed but I am going to just get a nice ribbon and tie them up with a poem attached! I am only getting one per table because I think more than that just = a lot of un used pics that you paid for (when you bought the cameras)
Butterfly is right though you dont pay for unexposed pics to be developed so if your guests only use 7 pics thats all y ou pay for!

Re: Disposable cameras
Ladies- I am using 400 speed film - 27 exposure with flash cameras. If you go to www.freeweddingcameras.com you can get the cameras from 3.45 to 3.95 per camera which is much cheaper than the 'wedding' cameras by Kodak (somewhere between 5 and 6 dollars each). It's AGFA film which personally I find to be just as good as Kodak (I take professional photos on the side of sweet 16s etc... and usually DON't use Kodak and find the other films to be fine). Hope this helps.

Re: Disposable cameras
this was just my experience:
we had 12 tables and we put 1 - 27exp camera on each table. of the 12, 3 never made it back to us - i guess people took them home. of the remaining 9, only 3 were even remotely close to having all the pictures taken. the remaining 6 - they all had anywhere from 15-27 shots left to be taken. of all the cameras that i have developed, i have maybe 5 good shots, period!! most shots are of something stupid (we have a nice shot of DH's cousins' crotch) or people did not put the flash on.
it is definitely something for the guests to do, but don't be disappointed if most of the cameras are not used or if the pictures are just plain bad.
i have seen girls on this board who wanted to save $$ and use their disposables as their only form of photography - DO NOT DO THAT!!!!

Re: Disposable cameras
We had the camera and while they are not the greatest pictures there are some great shots!! We put one camera on each table and got all but one back. DH's aunt went around to all the tables to make sure all the cameras were used up - she took pictures of people on the dance floor at the end of the night.
I would go with the 800 speed/15 exposure cameras. 27 pictures is a alot of pictures and the reception halls can be a bit dark so the faster film will help with the quality.

Re: Disposable cameras
About freeweddingcameras.com - I couldn't find an expiration on them! I want to be sure that if I ordered cameras they wouldn't be expired by the wedding!
I also found a site that has a 'skin' that you can print up and recover the camera with to make it look like a wedding one. Here is the site I don't know how this will come out because I didn't try it yet. I think I will try one and if it easy enough then I might do them all!

We had similar experience to Karen and I don't recommend even using them... They were just a was of an extra couple hundred $$$

same here. i got us cutting the cake 10 times, dark shots (i had an evening indoor wedding) so for me they weren't worth it. I got very little good shots. Shamma got some great pics others, did not. I developed 9 cameras so far $95). I still have another 7 to do, some took some home and most have only 12 or 8 pics taken so now I need to use these to finish them up and spend another $60 to develop probably more cake cutting, etc

Re: Disposable cameras
We had these at our eparty and I bought the fun pack Kodak 27 exposure ones. Out of 8 tables 3 were not finished. We got some really good pics. We did get dark ones, and about 10 of the same pic, but overall the majority were great. Throughout the night, the DJ was telling people not to forget to use the flash. And people listened! We are using the same cameras for our wedding and whatever isn't finished, we will take to the HM. I also numbered all the cameras for the eparty corresponding to each table. So when I was missing the one at my parents table, we were able to figure out who was the culprit.

Re: Disposable cameras
Did anyone do one of those photo scavenger hunts, where you give each table a list of shots they need to get? I thought that sounded like a good idea to get people to use the cameras responsibly, and possibly get some good pictures out of the whole thing.

Re: Disposable cameras
Thanks for all the tips. I am still going to do it, mostly because FH family wants it & they offered to are give us some $. Iwill do jsut oen per table though. I'm kind of amused by stupid pictures, I'm sure my drunk friends will take close ups of themselves. I do hope my photographer's studio doesn't burn down, b/c crotch shots won't be so funny 20 years later!
I would definitely not make it my only photography. I will have a pro, and I will give my brother a few pointers with my 35mm SLR camera & I have a few other friends/family who can take decent shots. At my cousin's wedding she didn't have dispoasables, but a lot of the amature shots from people's point & shoots came out great.
I think I will also have my cousin who is 11 & likes to help, go around & collect the cameras at the end of the night & finish up any shots.
