Disrespecting the Elderly...

Re: Disrespecting the Elderly...

I volunteered at a nursing home for six years and I can't imagine treating anyone I knew there, much less my mother, the way this woman treated her mother.

By contrast, DH's maternal grandparents are two of the most obnoxious, hurtful, vindictive people I have ever met and I still wouldn't threaten to ram their heads into a wall. There's just no excuse for that. Ugh.

That story is so sickening! I lost my grandma 2 years ago and I miss her sooooooo much. I would give anything to see her again. People forget that one day they will be old too! Treat others as you wish to be treated. I feel so bad for this woman, I wish I could adopt her! (hope her daughter lives to regret her cruelty!)

If I ever told my mother that I was going to RAM HER HEAD INTO THE WALL, she would do it first even if she were one hundred years of age. I hate it when people are mean to the elderly.

It's sad...that poor woman in the supermarket.

My mother used to care for the elderly - whether they had alzheimer's or were recovering for cancer, etc - she took amazing care of them. And in return, her patients loved her like family - and in some cases, more than their own family. Mostly b/c she had patience that their own families lacked - for whatever reason. I can't imagine it easy, having to care for a parent.

But when it came to caring for her own mother, the caring and empathy flew out the window. She didn't have patience for my nannie nor did she respect her. I'm sure a lot of it had to do with her own childhood and unresolved issues...but that is no excuse for the verbal abuse she unleashed on my nannie - nor the threats and incident of physical abuse.
