Distance between church/RH

Distance between church/RH

Has anybody put any thought into the distance that guests will have to travel from the wedding ceremony site and the RH?

I've just been looking at places on line and I thought the Beach Club Estate in Ronkonkoma looked pretty from the pictures and would go well with my 'summer brunch theme.'

The problem is that my church is in Farmingdale and the first thing FH said is, 'Come on, you know I HATE it when we have to drive far between the church and the reception!'

My friend's brother said he got a good deal at Babylon Carriage House (is that even the right name I'm wondering now?) and it would only be about a 10 minute drive from the church.

Should I consider this, or should I just tell FH not to worry about it because we'll be in a limo and it's the guests' problem?

When FH and I were looking at halls, we picked what we fell in love with. But, we also took in consideration the travel time for our guests. This is the reason why we are having ceremony/reception all in one. It makes it alot easier for guest. Maybe you could check out that ceremony site that is closer to your RH. Also, think about traffic.

I agree with this, you also have to think of the time between when the ceremony begins and when the cocktail hour & Reception begins...because some guests will have nothing to do between that time if they go to the ceremony.

The weddings I have been to recently, we have gone to ceremony and reception. I just feel like its the right thing to do. And for thsoe guests that do attend the ceremony it is nice to consider them...i say consider, not necessarily go with their desires!

We are getting married at the Rh so I don't have to worry about it...but I hate when the church and RH is really far away or the time between the two is long.....

i don't really think it's THAT far between farmingdale and ronkonkoma. i definitely don't think 30 min is a really long drive!

We're in Queens and we originally said we were going to look everywhere.... one looooong drive out to the Mansion at Timber Point changed our minds. It was too long a drive for us! Imagine how our guests would feel. The RH we chose is about 20 minutes away, not a long drive at all.

I don't think Farmingdale and Ronkonkoma are too far apart at all. Exit 49 to 60 on the LIE - I've dealt with much worse for weddings!

My church was in Patchogue and reception was in Smithtown, which was about 15 miles, and not an issue at all. The distance between your two towns is a little more, but would probably take a similar amount of time because of it being mostly highway.

HTH!

That is not that far of a distance at all.

My church is in East Rockaway and Reception in Holbrook. Your guests will find something to do.

our church & rh are about 20-30 minutes apart - we thought about it but then we figure we're asking the majority of the people who are coming to the church to come early anyway for family pics so it wont really matter. And after talking to our family members they said they didn't care either. BTW we went to one cousins wedding whose church & RH were over an hour apart!! So we're not sweating over 20 minutes

We have about a half hour between our Church in Commack and our hall in Miller Place, but I love both places, so I don't really think a half hour is that bad for people to drive. Plus the hotel that our out of town guests will stay at is close to the RH so they won't have a far drive after the reception.

Thanks everyone!

I love my church, so there's definitely no way I'd change that. And I told FH that we'd be in a limo anyway, so we don't have to worry about getting there.

Maybe I'll just 'look' at the place in ronkonoma and *hope* I don't fall in love with it????

I agree that you have to consider your guests, but you also have to pick the place that you love! Our RH is about a half hour from the church. I'm just making sure the hotel we pick is close to the RH so they do not have to drive long afterwards.
