The 2nd marriage question got me thinking. I would hate the fact of ever having to get a divorce. I would only get a divorce if someone cheats, becomes abusive, or becomes an addict of some kind...
What are everyone else thoughts on divorce in general (not necisarrly specific to you)
My parents got divorced when I was a kid and looking back it didn't seem that there was any valid reason for it...

Re: divorce?
i am scared of this word, don't like thinking about it...but i would not stay with someone that is abusive, manipulative, or does not let me reach my goals but then again i wouldn't be marrying a person like that Fh is wonderful!

Re: divorce?
I think divorce s*cks, but sometimes it's necessary. My parents almost got divorced when I was a kid. My childhood was spent listening to my parents fight every single night. Then they went through counseling, and things were good. Then when I went away to college, things went downhill again. By the time I was at the end of my junior year in college, my parents were no longer talking to each other and it made going home absolutely miserable. They finally got divorced a month before my college graduation. It was hard, upsetting, and really s*cked, but it was necessary. Both of them are much better off now and things are so much less awkward and hostile.
With that said, I would hope that FH and I never have to worry about this. I would absolutely exhaust all other options first. But personally, I think that parents who stay together just for the kids (and not because they love each other) are doing even more damage than they would by just getting it over with.

Re: divorce?
i am very forunate that my parents and FH parents are still married. My grandparents will be celebrating there 60th anniversary this year so divorce is not in my vocabulary. I do not believe in it unless there is a drastic cause for it. That is also because I am a catholic and they really frown upon divorce.

I'm catholic too, and my dad has been divorced twice (one marriage before my mom) and one of my sisters is divorced.....hopefully I can stop the pattern

Re: divorce?
I know that this will be unpopular but that's fine.
While I personally think that divorce ***** and my parents and FH's parents are together, and I have no desire to get a divorce, nor is it an option for FH and I, I think it is a really tough decision and the right one for some people. I think that while it is ultimately not a decision I will ever make, for some people the divorce issue is about being able to make a choice between what everyone thinks is right and what you think is right. I think it can even be a brave decision. I'm sure you guys will hate me for this, but I know some people who were in really unhappy marriages and got divorced and they and their ex husbands (XHs?) are now so much happier and healthier.
So that's it. Attack away.

I don't think there's anything wrond with that. In fact I agree, I know people my age and younger who are divorced and it was absoulutely the best decision could have made...

Re: divorce?
Both FH and my parents have been married since they were young - therefore, both FH and I have the same opinion that the marriage is final, and divorce is not an option for both of us. Granted, you might think that we both might live in a fairtale world, but we are both fully aware that marriage is a lot of work - and we are both up to the challenge of the hard times that might come along with marriage. We have talked about it before - and we both agree that once we get married, that is it (absent of course of any radical circumstances). I am excited to be with my best friend for the rest of my life, and work through both the good times and the bad that comes to us....

Re: divorce?
Divorce is a tricky subject. I would only divorce if I was getting cheated on, abused, or if my spouse had an addiction to all those horrible things...like steroids, alcohol, drugs, etc and refused to get help. Those are all selfish acts and its not what love is about.

Re: divorce?
divorce is not an option unless as others said there is cheating or abuse involved. i believe that if you truly love on another you can get through anything. i think too many see divorce as an easy way out as opposed to working through their problems, hence the 52% divorce rate. divorce does not exist in my family. no one in my family is divorced or in FHs family. there have without a doubt been problems with couples in my family but they have worked through them. but this is JMHO!

Re: divorce?
My parents have been married for 30 years now and they have set such an amazing example for us of what a marriage should be. Through thick and thin they have stood by each other. Also, I have NEVER EVER heard my parents fight, just never, so I think thats pretty good.
FH's mother has been married twice, never remarried after the last divorce. And his father has been married 3 times. However we always say three times a charm with him, he is very happily married to fh's stepmother.
Divorce will never be an option to me unless like kim said something drastic happens.
