HI everyone..here's the deal..very long story short, I want to do my own chuppah (well, right now, at least the top) because we have my FH's deceased mother's wedding dress and deceased brother's tallis and would like to make them into a chuppah cover...the problem is the poles..anyone ever have this? Thanks!!

you might be able to rent or borrow poles from a synagogue or a judiaca shop.

Actually, I am getting married where you got married, and when I spoke to Chris today he said he could lend us the brass poles at no charge, so now we just have to find someone to sew the canpy part..any suggestions!?? :) Thanks!

I'm also planning on making my own chuppah----we're probably going to use bamboo sticks. i think you can buy them at a florist or plant store....

I actually called the temple and they told me they have brass poles and I wouldn't have to do anything extra money-wise, so I think I might go with that..the only thing FH worries about is who is going to assemble it day-of...we also need someone who knows how to sew it..thanks and good luck to you..let me know if I can help!

what about taking it to whoever you get to tailor pants or a suit? they must be able to sew something into a perfect square!

some people use either their own tallis or a tallis they're giving to their partner as the top. that's one of the things we're thinking of doing, as my FW has a really pretty tallis.

HI again...evnme...I've seen your picture before and even showed it to FH! That is part of where I got the idea, and the dress just grew from it since we had it and thought it would be a nice sentiment..I spoke to the temple again today and I think the toughest thing now is finding someone to make the fabric into the shape, but someone I know is looking into it..thank you girls and guy so much!

thank you, but i am not really looking to make it a quilt perse, but now that i think of it maybe the wedding dress material can be made into one and the we can keep it for something later! Oh, man! It just feels like it's getting more and more complicated!!!!
