Has anyone tried cutting wine corks to use as place card holders? They are so hard to cut that I don't know if I'm doing it wrong. I'm using a steak knife and I can't seem to get the cut straight. Helllp! I guess thats why etsy was charging so much for them

DIY Cork Help
I used champagne corks for my place card holders and we just cut a slit in the top with a very sharp knife. Maybe wine corks are a harder material?

I'm cutting the bottom so it lays flat. Do I not need to do this? Lol...I feel so silly now. Do they stay put if you keep them round?

I tried the exacto knife first because I thought, 'how hard can this cork be?' After I shredded my first cork I whipped out my huge steak knife and started cutting those bad boys.
I'm gonna have my BM help me. I can't cut straight and this is more her thing. hahah...I love crafty BMs...

the champagne corks stood up on their own, but I think their bottom is a little bigger and probably more stable than a wine cork?

Soak them in water for a while first and they won't crumble when you cut them. Hope that helps!

DIY Cork Help
i did this, and i used some really really sharp knife that my brother in law had, i don't even know what kind of knife it is, he uses it when he goes fishing. he was really nervous about me using it because of how sharp it us. the regular knives did not work well but this one did the trick. sorry i don't have more information right now but i will ask him what kind of knife that was...
