DIY flowers (bouquet, centerpieces, etc)?

Are any brides that will be or have done or their own floral arrangements? I am not looking to break the bank on flowers, even though I do love them. If I can eliminate labor from the equation, I could save myself some money headaches.

I only have myself and my MOH for bouquets, maybe 4 boutonnieres max and between 8-10 centerpieces. I'm looking to do really minimalist things (a flower or two in a vase, which makes me think I can do it. This is my inspiration:

I've looked into Bloom by the Box and a few other places like it and they seem pretty reasonable. I like this pack they have on their site: http://www.bloomsbythebox.com/pub/orderflowers.cfm?categoryid=138&productid=2378

Any other brides consider this?

I am not doing that but that looks so pretty and I don't doubt that you could do that yourself!

DIY flowers (bouquet, centerpieces, etc)?

I am doing something similar to the first photo you posted. I’ll share a photo of some trial arrangements I did later or tomorrow :)

I considered Blooms by the Box and read a lot of good reviews, but it made me too nervous to get flowers in the mail. I am using a florist for bouquets, boutonnieres, etc. and in the end I decided to get my centerpiece flowers from her as well, but arrange them myself. She is basically going to give me buckets of uncut flowers 2 days before the wedding. We’re also saving money by using our own collection of jars & bottles.

My SIL actually got her centerpiece flowers from Stop & Shop. I believe you can pre-order from their florist, but we just went and bought bouquets in her color scheme the day of! I am sure it saved her a TON of money.

I would love to see the photos :). Thanks

I actually am saving wine bottles and tin cans (that I will be re-purposing with paint and/or wrapping them in burlap and lace) to put the flowers in. I would definitely consider your route too of going to a florist and getting flowers from them.

I have heard of people doing Stop n Shop or even going to Trader Joes to get their flowers. It is also something I am considering.

Check out Costco too!! I know brides have used them for flowers before and they may have better wholesale prices than stop and shop.

DIY flowers (bouquet, centerpieces, etc)?

My girl friend owns blooming floral designs in Lindenhurst she wuoted me for 21 pieces bouquets, corsages and boutounieres (no bridal bouquet though) under $400. Its all about the type of flowers u choose and quantity. For the bm I wanted small so I asked for 4 calla lilies. Just sitting to think about if you want reasonable and no diy project!

That sounds great! This is what I did at home to test out my ideas. I'm going to have more of a variety with the flowers for the actual wedding - some hydrangeas, peonies, etc. Candles and framed table numbers too :)

OMG! That is absolutely beautiful!! I love the doily idea too.

Are those all jars and bottles you've saved? Where do you get the blue and green-ish ones?

Re: DIY flowers (bouquet, centerpieces, etc)?

Thank you :) :) I've been 'joking' that doilies are the theme of our wedding because they're kind of taking over! LOL

I recently bought a few blue Mason jars specifically for the wedding, but everything else is from my fiancé's bottle collection. He has been collecting for a while and has a ton more than what you see in the photos. He has found the majority of them on the beach (where he works), but we hit up random antique shops and fairs a lot too.

Our next stop is a antique fair in Eastport that seems like its worth checking out: http://www.olishfarms.com/antique-show-gallery.html

We have a florist for our wedding, but a friend of mine is doing her own in bottles. Believe it or not, but Ikea has cheap bottles in diff shapes and sizes.

DIY flowers (bouquet, centerpieces, etc)?

I did some research on this too, trying to weigh out the benefit of DIY flowers and I read a lot of people who had wonderful things to say about places like Costco, BJs and Sam's Club flowers. You can buy in bulk from them for great prices and a lot of the reviews were very very good. Saw a few say colors are a little off from photos but if you are going with white or can be flexible on what shade they are it seems like a really great option. They also have arrangements, boutonnieres, bouquets packages you should look into especially since you only need two bouquets. VERY reasonably prices packages and lots of reviews to read to make yourself comfortable.

As someone else said, I'm learning the TYPES of flowers you chose are a price driver too. If you happen to like the rustic look (and from you inspiration photo it seems like it) look into babies breath, even through a florist it will save yourself the money and the headache. It's very inexpensive yet I think beautiful with the right look. Also, hydrangeas are fairly inexpensive as well and they come in lots of colors.

Another tip for glassware - try the Christmas Tree Shop!! They have GREAT stuff VERY cheap and often have coupons. Both of my sisters bought vases for centerpieces from them last year and were about $10 each and you're keeping them so you can give away and save one or two for your house :)
