DIY FLowers, need advice!

DIY FLowers, need advice!

Does anyone think that I am crazy for wanting to do the flowers myself. I am only going to do my bouquet, the bridesmaids, the boutioneer's for the men, but I may buy the wrist corsages for the mothers because those look a little more difficult. No centerpieces or anything, those are included at the RH. I am planning to use gerbera daisies which are a pretty hardy flower. The bouquet that I want is a simple hand tied bouquet. I can do all of this for like $200, that's why its an option. What does everyone think?

Ok... I don't think your crazy. I wanted to do this as well because im a bride on a buget (who isn't on LI) and im pretty artsy! It is harder then you think though and you risk the flowers wilting the night before. It also will add alot of stress on you. I wanted to make my own CPs because they are pretty basic but the girls here advised me against it. Im glad they did in the end because it is alot of stress and the girls here know best about anything. Im sure you can have these things made fairly inexpensively at a florist and then they will keep them in that special fridge and deliver them perfectly. I know Stop and Shop does wedding flowers every innexpensive and so does Costco. Im sure the girls can give you about 748328953 places that you can check out too.

What hall gave you CPs?? What do they look like?

i did the flowers myself for e-party. I bought them at the wholesale district. When you buy them they come closed. So i had to pick them up a couple days before and take good care of them, i was given instructions, in order for them to bloom. If i didnt follow instructions carefully then they wouldn't have. The flowers i bought, had to stay in warm water, and warm temperature. At first i had 2 huge buckets while the flower was still closed and kept the water warm, a bit annoying bc i constantly had to change the water, and s*cked since i was at work for hours and nobody was home to do this so i would RUN home from work to change the water. But i also had to change the water before i left for work and also before bed. Once they started to bloom, i couldnt keep them in the buckets bc they were starting to open and needed space from eachother. I had also bought the vases from the wholesale district so i set up all the vases and started putting the flowers in there. I had vases EVERYWHERE haha. And this time it was even more annoying to change the water, bc before i had 2 buckets to do and now i had over a dozen vases. I had to keep the temperature in the house very warm.

You'll have less flowers since you wont have to do the cp's but if youre up for this then go for it.

I am going to book the meadow club and they include a small floral vase. I don't really need much more than that so I am going to leave that to them and try to do my own bouquets. Daisies are one of the easier flowers, if I were to pick exotic flowers then I would def not consider it at all. I have to check with the florist by my house about pricing if I were to allow them to do it. I have been told that they are one of the cheaper florists to use so I will try there and if the price is outrageous (since I know what they cost now so I can get a feel for what they charge for labor and delivery) I will just do it myself. :) Sounds a little complicated but possible.

My nana is very crafty. Her friend does them so she is just going to go to her wholesale place, I don't know which one, to get the flowers. They are like 50 cents a flower or something like that. She will put them together for me.

i did amaryllis flowers, they were white and the rim of the flowers were a light pink. It was for my e-party and said i am not gonna hire a florist just for the e-party but it was a pain. Thats why for the wedding i just had my florist do everything and didnt want to do anything lol. Not only that but you have so much more to do right before a wedding so make sure youre not putting too much on your plate. It depends on the flower you use, some are easy and dont need much work, while others you have to follow instructions very carefully or they wont bloom.

this is the flower

the stems are also big and hallow, and i had to buy bamboo sticks and cut them in smaller pieces and put them inside the stem to get them to stay up straight and not bend.

wow those are pretty! gerbera daisies don't really need that much care they just need to be well hydrated but they are a pretty hardy flower. i will check out the florist but a friend told me that daisies are cheap but to get them done by a florist the gerbera daisies are a special type of daisy that is more expensive for them to get. i don't understand that because they are still super cheap when you buy them :(
