DIY for a Friend...Updated with Pic!

So, my mother's sister-in-law is getting married this weekend. She called and asked me if I could make her a card box, as she loved mine that I did for our wedding. Her theme is daisies, but she has like 10 wedding colors. The girls dresses focus more on teal and brown SO I used those main colors and incoporated the others with the polka dots and stuff. Let me know what you think!!

I have one pic with flowers and one without, I wasnt sure how to do the top yet. Opinions and suggestions are welcome and appreciated!

*So, I took the suggestions and revamped the box today. I think it looks awesome now, thank you ladies (specially kerri :o). Delivering it tomorrow, I think she will love it! New pic added!*

Re: DIY for a Friend

OK so I love the daisies you incorporated.

The middle part with the polka dots... the words on the polka dots looks a little busy. Maybe you could use transparent paper and then use colored letters ontop of that and then put it on the polka dot box?? This way there's a backing to the words so they aren't right ontop of the polka dots and it won't look so busy. Also darker colored letters will make them stand out more while grounding them. The transparent paper will let the color and polka dots show through but it will dim it so that it's not so prominant where their names are. Does that make sense?

Also, is there anyway to pull the fabric a little tighter? More on the top and bottom boxes. The top box... you can see the folding of the fabric. I'm not sure how i feel about that.

Oh and what about adding a lining to the part where the boxes meet? Like a rope or ribbon (i like the ribbon better than the rope haha) or lace or beading?

The daisies are sooo adorable. And the top you have on it is perfect!! It ties into the daisies and the colors and also the round little yellow ball things tie into the polka dots from the middle.

so that's my opinion of it!!!

Oh, and its a pretty small wedding so she asked for it to be smaller and kinda simple. I think it turned out cute :O)

Re: DIY for a Friend

Thanks Kerri!

I love the idea of putting something around where the boxes meet. Very good idea :O)

I am definitly working on the top box....she wanted the bottom kinda seer-suckered like that, so Im definitly gonna fix the top box though. It was my first one...haha.

I will definitly look into the paper too....I never used it before!

Im glad you like the top flowers, I had a heck of a time trying to figure them out. Thanks for the advice!!!

~What color should I use to go around where the boxes meet do you think? Should I add more yellow?Brown?~

The paper.. don't just get transparent paper... that will be completely clear.. you want a more foggy one.. more like Velum paper!!

A lot of DIYers use the Velum paper for the unity candle... they print their names on it and wrap it around the candle. You should be able to find it at any craft store like Michael's or AC Moore.

I think it all matches well. And I love the yellow ontop of the box. It pulls the color of the daisies out very nicely!! Very Cute!!

Is this for a summer type of outdoors wedding? Or a day wedding? I picture it being for something cutsey and daytimeish. Like your typical relaxed tea party wedding. haha!
