So FH and I decided we wanted to try DIY invites to help with costs and because we can't find anything we like. I'm doing a cinderella theme and wanted the invites to reflect that. every company has the same disney invites and i'm just not really fond of any of them. So we saw the blank invite sets at Michaels and followed the web site directions and created some type of 'proof'. we looked at some Disney clip art websites and found some graphics we liked and tried to add it together. After many frustrating hours (damn margines) we got a graphic with the wording- and it looked horrible! Are we morons or are we doing something wrong? I've seen many DIY invites turned out by fellow brides here and they are beautiful- you couldn't tell it was DIY. Just wanted to see what others have done and who might be able to offer a sugestion. Thanks.

Re: DIY Invites- Why am I having so much trouble??
when you add clipart or graphics its hard, bc depending where you dl the graphic it might not be that great of quality so thats when it is a problem. I did my own invites but also didnt really use graphics on them. I had one small graphic design on them and thats it really.
Is the graphic blurry or coloring not coming out right. What type of paper is it and what type of printer are you using. Certain types of papers only print well with certain types of printers.

where are you puting the image? if your puting it on the top and you want it closer to the top you are going to need to adjust the header and footer

I'm having a hard time picturing what you're trying to do here. Do you have a picture of what you've designed thus far?

No sorry. we tried different things. we tried enlarging the photo to the size of the card and had the writting over it. The pic is cinderella and the prince. so we started the words at their necks and went down. No good. we made the pic smaller and put it at the top and had the words in the center and that didn't look right either. I've seen invites to little girls princess parties that looked better than this!!! FH is a cartoonist so maybe he could draw something and we can take it to a printer???
I'm so frustrated with this and would really like to leave it up to a professional.

many times when you take an image that you got online and you enlarge it or make it smaller, it will not have the same quality.
Are you using a text box over the picture to insert the verse, it will work out better that way. WHenever ive done anything where i have a colorful background or any design on it, it always works best when you do insert text box and write it inside there.

you might also want to fade the pic of cinderella so it looks more like a background so the color is not fighting with the wording of the invitation.
I used the Anna Griffin invite from Michael's that has a vellum overlay over a pink rose that tones down the coloring - - the invite wording prints on the vellum and they are tied with ribbon. you might want to try that.
here's a pic of mine to give you an idea what I mean. hope it helps.
