I was wondering if it is possible to make your own magnets? not have them printed.. I hear so many negative things about vistaprints.com and I dont want to spend 200(other site pricing). I was hoping someone can help me~
I was thinking of making mine nice and simple..(picture below) I am going to change the picture(that is just temporary)
I got the idea of putting my monogram in there. I think it can out decent. (inspired by MrsQ-in2007)
I bought the Xyron machine to make my STD magnets. Wait for a big sale at Michaels (coupons are taken for the machine). It's well worth it. I saved alot of money.

Re: DIY magnets
you can also buy 8.5x11 sheets of sticker paper and print out a whole sheet and stick it onto those magnet backing sheets. Then get a good paper cutter and chop them up.
If you are gonna DIY other stuff, its totally worth it to buy the xyron (even though i know some craft store coupons specifically arent good on xyron and some other brands) or a paper cutter.
If you arent going to DIY anything else, just pay for the printing. What about www.printsmadeeasy.com ? i used them for postcards and thought the service was fabulous. not sure if they do magnets though

I'd go this route, it's pretty easy.

Re: DIY magnets
i ordered 250 free business cards from vistaprint and then i went to Michaels and bought business card sized magnet paper. i peeled and stuck. i had to trim a little (very little) off the magnet to match the card with an exacto knife. they came out perfect!

I made our own and though they were cheaper, unelss you buy a good quality paper cutter which can be pricey, its cheaper and less time consuming to have them printed because ink is soooo costly and the magnetic paper isn't cheap either.

Not 'expensive' but yea pricier than having them printed. I think for 6 sheets of paper its 12 bucks but unless you make the tiny magnets (return address label size) which wont work well with photo STD's, you only get about 4 magnets per sheet. So if you need to send out 100 magnets...gets pricey. then you need to throw in the ink. The fact you are using a photo on the STD means more ink needs to be used. Ours had more color going on but we only did about 60 and used about 2/3 of an entire thing of ink, including printing the cards that we put them into.
If I had gone through zazzle.com or vistaprint, it would have been MUCH cheaper and I wouldnt have had the hassle of cutting them up. JMO.
Thanks re: our wedding pics and stds :)
