How do I do them and what do I need to get. I would really like to try to do these myself but I am not sure what I have to do. If anybody can help I would really appreciate it. This is my first DIY project so I am very excited.

I would imagine there's lots of ways to do them. You could wrap the votive in vellum, paint it, or (and here's the option I favor) you could get that stuff that etches glass. You get a stencil, dab the stuff on, leave it on for a minute, then wash it off. I got a dozen wine glasses a friend of mine etched herself for my shower, they're beautiful.

ive done a lot of glass etching and its kind of a pain.... and by kind of a pain I mean a huge freaking PITA
vellum wrapped around the container would be the easiest and cheapest though etching would be kind of awesome on an odd shaped or spherical container.
