So now that my holiday excuse is over, it's back to finding a DJ. I feel totally lost with this vendor. Fiancé and I are really looking for a low frills DJ that just plays great music that will keep our guests dancing. No props, really not interested in club/up lighting type styles, and I'm really even on the fence about having the MC. Anyone meet with any DJ's that kinda fit this? I feel like every one I've looked at so far really pushes clubby styles/lighting and that's not what we are really looking for.

Check out FM Entertainment- he has the lowest prices I've found so far and I've heard good things about him. You can do an a la carte menu with them. Their basic package starts at $695 for 1 DJ/MC and you can add on from there if you want anything extra.

Contact Beyond the Mix (Doug), we are good friends with him and he has done a bunch of weddings we have been to.http://www.weddingwire.com/biz/beyond-the-mix-garden-city/9fefdfb62de80f90.html
We are using them for our wedding - well half of them ha ha. Doug is a guest at our wedding so his partner John will be DJing our wedding.

I'm using Satisfaction Guaranteed because my FH and I fell in love with Vinny! My friend used Big Hits Entertainment. She told him that she didnt want to see/hear the MC and beside the general announcements of the walk in and the dances - we did not see the guy all night. Good way to have an MC to organize the party and not hear 'let me hear you scream!' all night (FH biggest peeve)

Haha, I'm the same as you! Honestly, I would ask around. My co-worker is DJing our wedding, never knew he was a DJ until someone mentioned it! I'm not having an MC either; my BFF will be announcing the entrances and that's it. DJ can say 'dinner is being served' and all that.My FFIL used to be in a wedding band for over 20 years and he hates MCs lol.

Re: DJ
We booked a band, so can't help you on the DJ front. But I just wanted to comment about your lack of MC. Just went to a wedding recently and they had a band with no MC. We were not sitting close to the dance floor so had no idea what was going on.I turned around and the father/daughter dance was 3/4 over. Then later, I turned around and the bride and groom did a special dance that I totally missed. By the time I figured out something was going on, there was a huge crowd around the dance floor and I couldn't get through.
And missed the cake cutting too.
I would hate for your guests to miss those special moments. So definitely have a plan as to who will introduce key moments during your reception.

Re: DJ
That's a good point too, which is why I'm not totally opposed to the MC. The last wedding I went to, the MC was way over the top and really kinda cheesy so I guess that's whats in my mind right now lol. I'm sure we'll see what clicks when we start going to appointments. Thanks! =)

We were looking for the exact same thing! The two places we liked the most were Genesis Events and Bravura. Genesis will do the 1 man dj/mc thing, for a really good price, and I like the guy we spoke to. We ended up going with Bravura, mostly because they were really impressive, and the more I thought about it the more I wanted an MC separately just to be a kind of party coordinator.Neither places pushed crazy club upgrades or anything - they asked what we wanted and avoided showing us or trying to sell anything else.

We used FM Entertainment for our wedding and we can't say enough about Frank. We had Frank as our MC and one of his guys as our DJ. Everyone is still raving about the music and everything and what a great time. We knew from when we first met with Frank that he was the one and we wanted him as our MC. What I love also is when you meet with him he does a private showcase so you can see from the inside out. I highly recommend him.

We booked with FM Entertainment. Frank was really great to work with. He hosts several showcases and you should definitely check it out. My FH and I went to his showcase and loved how he did everything as if it was our actual reception. He asks you about what kind of music and style you want. And not to mention the price! The basic for 4 hours is $695 with the LI Weddings promotion.Welcome New Vendors
